PART 1

T – Hello?

P – Hi Terrence, it’s Phillip.

T – Oh hello, how’s it going?

P – Good thanks, look I’ve just seen a job going where I work and I thought you’d be interested. You said you
were looking for something new?

T – I am yes, that sounds great! What sort of job is it?

P – The opening is for an Assistant Administrator in the IT department.

T – Oh OK, I could do that – can you give me the details?

P – Sure. Do you have a pen?

T – Yep, fire away.

P – OK, well, we’re based in the South of the city. The address is 187 Partridge Avenue. Norwich, obviously.

T –OK, great. Sorry, can you spell Partridge for me? I’m not a great speller.

T – Sure, it’s P-A-R-T-R-I-D-G-E Avenue. Do you want the post code as well?

T – Yep, go for it.

P – It’s NR15 9AH

T – Sorry was that 15 or 50?

P – 15 9AH

T – Great, thanks. What’s the phone number for the person I need to contact?

P – You’ll need to speak to John Holmes, you can reach him on 01603 4437847 but it’s also possible to send
him an email.

T – Oh right OK, what’s his email address?

P – It’s john.holmes2@omnicorp.com, you should send him your CV and a covering letter as soon as you can
really, a lot of people will be applying, I imagine.

T – john.holmes2, right got it, Is that Holmes with an L?

P – It is yeah, H-O-L-M-E-S.

T – Great, thanks.
PART 2
T – So Phillip, I had a few questions about the job before I apply.
P – OK, go ahead.
T – I’ll go with the most important thing first, I suppose - what’s the salary like?
P – The basic salary is one thousand two hundred pounds a month, so it works out at about fourteen thousand
a year.
T – Right OK, that’s not too bad I suppose but then it’s not that great either... What are the working hours
like?
P – You’ll be looking at working from 10am to 4pm.
T – That sounds excellent – I won’t have to worry about rush hour or anything like that - sounds ideal. You
said that the office is located over on Partridge Avenue, right?
P – I did, yes.
T – That’s also really handy as I live only 10 minute drive away. That’s definitely a big plus. Do you know
exactly what the job entails?
T – As I said before, you’ll be an assistant administrator. So, you’ll basically be there to help out the main
administrator with things like facsimiles, procurement of beverages and data entry.
T – So not a lot of job satisfaction then?
P – I suppose not at first but it’s a big company and they tend to look for people with the right attitude. If you
come in and do a good job, I think there’ll be opportunities for you to move up the corporate ladder into a
better job.
T – That sounds good – I’d be interested in that. Are there any perks that come with it?
P – Not especially, to be honest.
T – Oh ok then, so I suppose the only thing left to do now is prepare my application. Do you know if there is a
time I need to get it in by?
P – Yep, I’ve got the date somewhere….one second…found it… The deadline is the thirteenth of August.
T – Excellent, thanks a lot for your help Phillip.
P – Not a problem. One more thing before you go though, Terrence.
T – Oh?
P - I’d recommend sending Mr. Holmes an email, as it’s the most convenient way of contacting him. He’s
often out in the laboratories, so he’s difficult to contact by phone.
T – Email, got it. Thanks again, see you this weekend for the game?
P – Sure, same as always. Bye now.
