the stand next to ours, but I persisted. On the fourth attempt, the wave went
halfway around the stadium, with thousands of people celebrating.
When the wave stopped, the people around me looked my way, as if
to say, “Will you lead us again?” They sensed that victory was near. I called
out, “Three, two, one, go!” and the wave went around the entire stadium
six times. Even the people standing on the middle of the pitch joined in.
It was an incredible feeling, to create a ripple effect of positive vibes that
energized thousands of people. It was one of my first times experiencing
the power of Lift.
WHAT IS LIFT?
You experience Lift when you elevate yourself and the people around you
from a negative or neutral state to a more positive state. Your impact also
causes them to uplift others. Just like starting the wave, your positive intention
and influence can energize thousands of people. To have this impact in your
daily life, at work and at home, requires a toolkit of techniques that will trans-
form your mindset, your influence, and your future. You will discover each of
these techniques in this book, all of which have been proved to work through
scientific research and practical workshops with thousands of clients.
Lift is not about manipulation. This is not a gimmick. This is a funda-
mental key to elevating human connection. It’s the key that people who
inspire us use to gain incredible reactions, respect, and results.
You can become more effective in many parts of your life using Lift.
Great leaders approach important interactions with the intention of lifting
others, helping them to connect with a greater version of themselves. Lift
has been my key for decades to find success and fulfillment, deeply con-
nect with people, and help clients to do the same, all with one silver bullet.
Lasting joy, true success, purpose, and fulfillment come from lifting
those around you. That may include your family, friends, clients, boss, and
team. When you act from this intention, you will create positive waves
throughout your community and beyond, building trust and support. You
will feel lifted by these actions in return.
This book will help you bring your greatest self to the moments that
matter.
Every interaction you have will influence the people whom you impact in
many ways that are beyond your field of vision. This is known as “emo-
tional contagion” and occurs with yawns, smiles, and random acts of
kindness. When you see certain behaviors in those around you, the mir-
ror neurons in your mind are fired, causing you to feel similar emotions.
Consider for a moment the number of people you have interacted with in
the last 10 years. When they left your presence, were they elevated, unaf-
fected, or frustrated? What legacy have you created?
The aim of this book is to give you the tools you need to thrive in the
key moments of your life, while empowering you to lift others. By doing so,
you will achieve more personal success and fulfillment, and together we
can tilt the world in a more positive direction. If that sounds worthwhile,
this book is for you.
When you put down the habits, comforts, and distractions of your hec-
tic life, you notice how you are living. You see your life more clearly. You
notice things you would like to change and gain clarity on who you want
to be. You have more time to take action toward creating a better future for
yourself and others.
During 2020 and 2021, worldwide pandemic lockdown prevented
people from spending time together. This time of separation was difficult,
but it also gave us an opportunity to stay at home and reflect on the life we
used to live, leading many to reconsider who they wanted to be and how
they wanted to spend their remaining time on earth. Perhaps you know
someone who chose to move into a new home, end a relationship, quit
their job, start a business, or make a major change in their life during this
time. There was a huge increase in the number of people seeking a more
purposeful, aligned way of living.
One element that so many craved throughout that time was connec-
tion. The internet helped us to keep in touch, but the feeling of being seen,
heard, and cared for was missing. That’s because the feeling of connection
is greater when we are physically together. We are social creatures and long
for true, meaningful relationships.
During this time, my company faced many challenges. Before the
pandemic, all our work took place in person, with 70 percent happening
overseas. With flights grounded and group gatherings banned, all of our
work was canceled. Our future income disappeared. We had an expensive
London office that we could not use. Many people on the payroll won-
dered how we would afford to keep going. I had to rethink how we served
our clients and how to look after our team. To succeed, I would need to lift
myself, my team, and our clients toward a better future.
Through speaking to our clients during this time, I discovered three
things:

people again?
Other people did not return to their workplace at all. The number of peo-
ple starting new businesses surged upward by 53 percent between 2019 and
2021 (according to data from the US Census Bureau). This was not just due to
a financial need. Many employers have struggled to hire talent back after the
pandemic, even with the promise of flexible working hours and higher pay.
When people left their jobs and refused to go back, many were seeking greater
purpose, greater fulfillment, and a desire to lift their impact on the world.
Throughout this time, my team worked with clients, corporations, and
individuals to increase their confidence, connection, and well-being, all
through applying the core intention of Lift.
