The aim of the The aim of the research is to investigate bilingualism and its
research implications for young learners in Pematang Siantar. Specifically,
it seeks to understand the nature of language contact, language
policy, and bilingual education in the community, as well as to
determine the optimal age for bilingual language exposure.
Research subject(s) The research subjects include parents, teachers, intellectuals, and
policymakers involved in the educational system in Pematang
Siantar. These individuals were selected for interviews to gather
their opinions and attitudes toward bilingualism and language
education for young learners.
Research method The research method involves conducting interviews with the
selected subjects to gather sociolinguistic data. This qualitative
approach allows for the exploration of individuals' opinions and
attitudes, providing insight into the socio-political management
of education and language policies in the community.
Results and findings The research findings suggest that bilingualism is a complex
phenomenon influenced by linguistic, sociological, cultural,
educational, and political factors. It highlights the importance of
preserving students' linguistic identity and the need for informed
decisions in designing and implementing bilingual education
models.
The strength of the  Utilizes a qualitative approach to gather in-depth insights
research into individuals' attitudes and opinions.
 Addresses a significant issue in education, particularly in
multilingual communities.
 Recognizes the importance of considering linguistic,
sociological, cultural, educational, and political factors in
bilingual education
And also,

bilingualism and language education. By delving into the
perspectives of parents, teachers, intellectuals, and
policymakers, the research captures nuanced insights that
quantitative methods might miss.
 Comprehensive Understanding: By considering various
factors such as linguistic, sociological, cultural,
educational, and political elements, the research offers a
comprehensive understanding of bilingualism in the
context of young learners. This holistic approach ensures
that the complexities and interdependencies of bilingual
education are adequately addressed.
 Policy Implications: The research findings have the
potential to inform educational policies and practices in
Pematang Siantar and similar multilingual communities.
By highlighting the importance of linguistic identity
preservation and the need for informed decision-making,
the research contributes to the development of effective
bilingual education models.
 Relevance to Society: Bilingualism is a pressing issue in
many societies worldwide, particularly in regions with
diverse linguistic backgrounds. By focusing on a specific
community and its experiences with bilingual education,
the research provides valuable insights that can be
extrapolated to inform similar initiatives globally.

The weaknesses of the  Reliance on interviews with a specific group of


research individuals may limit the generalizability of the findings.
 Lack of quantitative data may hinder the ability to
measure the extent of bilingualism and its effects
objectively.
 Potential bias or subjectivity in interpreting interview
responses could affect the validity of the conclusions.
And also,

 Limited Generalizability: The research's reliance on


interviews with a specific group of individuals may limit
the generalizability of its findings. While the insights
obtained from parents, teachers, intellectuals, and
policymakers are valuable, they may not fully represent
the perspectives of other stakeholders such as students,
community members, or linguistic experts.
 Quantitative Data Absence: The absence of quantitative
data in the research may pose challenges in objectively
measuring the extent of bilingualism and its effects.
While qualitative methods offer depth and richness,
supplementing them with quantitative data could provide
a more comprehensive understanding and strengthen the
research's validity.
 Potential Bias: There is a risk of bias or subjectivity in
interpreting interview responses, which could affect the
validity and reliability of the conclusions drawn from the
research. Ensuring rigor in data analysis and employing
techniques such as member checking or triangulation
could mitigate this risk.

The difference(s) with  Comparative Analysis: Comparing the experiences and


your intended perspectives of stakeholders in Pematang Siantar with
research those in other multilingual communities could provide
valuable insights into the universality or context-specific
nature of bilingual education challenges and solutions.
 Longitudinal Study: Conducting a longitudinal study to
track the long-term effects of bilingual education on
students' academic performance, language proficiency,
and socio-cultural adaptation could offer deeper insights
into the effectiveness and sustainability of bilingual
education initiatives.
 Action Research Approach: Adopting an action research
approach that involves collaboration between researchers,
educators, and community members could facilitate the
co-creation and implementation of bilingual education
interventions tailored to the specific needs and contexts
of the community. This participatory approach could
enhance the relevance and impact of the research
outcomes.
