We have been learning about prefixes and suffixes.
A prefix is a group of letters placed before the root of a word. For example, the word
“unhappy” consists of the prefix “un-” [which means “not”] combined with the root (or
stem) word “happy”; the word “unhappy” means “not happy.”
Read the passage below:
Wearing rollerblades can make you feel unsteady at first. It’s important to make sure your
rollerblades are not unbuckled or untied. Choose a surface that isn’t uneven to practise. It is
unwise to roller blade without a helmet or pads. Unless you are an expert, be sure to roller
blade with a buddy.
Find words which use the prefix “un” and write which words they are added to them and
what they mean. For example:
un + steady = unsteady – meaning to not be balanced

We have been learning about verb tenses including present tense for things
that are happening at that moment and past tense for things that have
already happened.
Read the passage below and find the present tense verbs, e.g. action words
such as ‘run’:
You run across the road, but a car comes by and nearly knocks you down. You
race to the corner of the street, then leap over a small, green hedge. You see
your friend, Billy. He darts towards you, then you both run towards me. I join
in, and I tear along the road next to you. All three of us reach Billy’s house and
speed up the path to his front door. We arrive at the door, then ring the
doorbell. Billy’s mum answers, then lets us in for a drink of orange squash.
Writing
Rewrite the passage above into past tense, changing the verbs as needed.
Example: You ran across the road, but a car came by and nearly knocked you
down.
