5. Equipment
5.1 Eiva Navipac Software

For this campaign, the navigation software for Online PC 1 computer used Eiva
Navipac 3.10.5 and for Online PC 2 used Eiva Navipac 4.5.4. This version
performed well and is stable, but a system restart is a necessity to be performed
every few days.

Currently we are using hard dongle 10323858-PRO + TMS for Online PC 1

(Navipac 3.10.5) and Softdongle for Online PC 2 (navipac 4.5.4).

5.5 Survey System Calibrations
Sensor calibrations and verifications were performed at Jabal Ali Port during
mobilization, and periodic systems checks are being performed. USBL calibrations
and verifications for HiPAP and Kongsberg cNODE MiniS were completed, and the
corrections were applied to the NaviPac system.

System calibration reports can be found in the signed field reports folder:

5.7 USBL System (Vessel’s Hipap Port and Stbd 501)
The DSV Lichtenstein permanently installed with two HiPAP 501 USBL systems
Port and Starboard. The system is used to create underwater positioning for the
DP reference and to supply USBL tracking for Survey.

Since the project mobilisation, we have used the ready-made data cable by
previous survey operators under the survey desk. This cable is linked to the APOS
COM22/Port 2 (9600, 8, N, 1) for Hipap 501 Port and Com23/Port 3 for Hipap 501
Starboard PSIMSSB UTM E/N, Cartesian X/Y.

5.8 ROV System
We have one ROV system used in the Project, namely Merlin WR 200 (Port side).
Though, the ROV systems only operated by a total of 6 men team (3 on each
shift). ROV was sending data to survey as references for heading, MRU (Roll and
Pitch), Depth and Altimeter.

Survey equipment installed on the ROVs are identical on each system, including
the follows:

8. Project Parameters and Activities
8.1 Horizontal Datum
Position data will be output from the DGPS system to navigation software on the
WGS-84 spheroid. The working datum for the project shall be Ain Al Abd (AAA)
1970 based on the ellipsoid from International 1924 (Hayford).

All heading information will have convergence applied and will be recorded and
reported as grid values. Operating units shall be metres and angular units shall be
decimal degrees (° Grid). Datum parameters to be used during the project are
presented in the next section.

route was documented to be between 13.4 meters and 16.3 meters. No debris or
obstructions were detected along the proposed power cable route. Nine (9) sandbags
were recorded during the survey. Eight (8) crossings were recorded during the survey.

• Make sure ROV start GVI at exactly KP by checking ROV KP at the DVR video
screen. For example, KP 4.091 will be at the Bellmouth and ROV must fly to Bellmouth KP
4.091.
• Make sure take Fix position, screen capture, and ask ROV to pan down to get visual
of the end Bellmouth/start of KP.
• Turning point/Turning Bollard will be Sandbag on the seabed. Ask ROV to get visual
and screen capture. Command ROV to the KP and take a fix in the top of Sandbag.

• Crossing point (CR) will be Mattress concrete on the seabed. Command ROV to get
visual of overall Mattress concrete. Command ROV to get visual of existing cable below
Mattress concrete, ROV can pan right and left.

10. Issues/ Troubleshooting/ Notes

10.1 EIVA, EQUIPMENT AND OTHERS
10.1.1 Beacon Object

During USBL Cal and some Project Ops, Navipac unable to recognise the beacon
as an object, only recognised as its TP number.

For USBL Cal this is critical, because if it’s only TP number it will not be on the list
of the object to define the beacon position, in other words cannot do the
calibration at all.

If this happen, make sure the object selected and moved to the right on Navipac
Online – Edit – Positioning Systems (two of them for each, eg: Hipap_Port: Crane
& Hipap_Stbd: Crane), then moved in and out one object (any object) few times
to refresh the system.

DSV Lichtenstein-1 Surveyor Handover Notes

10.1.2 Tritech Alti Bathy

This belong to the ROV, only we help them to get the data. The data is connected
to Moxa NPort on ROV Shack to port 4 (Com14). The Seanet Pro is installed on
Online2-PC, so don’t forget to always switch on the application here.

First time we set the Seanet output on the Moxa ports, only the data always
freezing after sometime, we managed to solve the problem after set the output to
the real serial Com (Com1) on Online2-PC.

10.1.3 MRU

The 2 MRU’s Seatex Primary and Secondary are unreliable to use, sometime good,
sometime like rubbish, and some other time freezing until the Datamon restarted.
We still put these two on the system for formality purposes only. Luckily we
manage to tap in Vessel MRU data and it is reliable to use after weeks of
observation, we use this for USBL Cal.

10.1.4 Datalog Express

SVX2 connected to MOXA NPort on ROV shack, then connected to Survey Station
by network. Datalog Express software is located on Online2-PC, only we have
anomaly on this application, once the application started it will close the ports on
the Survey Station Moxa NPort one by one, start with Vessel MRU, Seatex MRU,
and so on, so when we record the SVP we’ll lost the position for a while until we
close the application. Still can’t figure out what is the real reason, but the suspect
is the “connection” with the ROV, power leaking, etc.

On the future we might need to use the Helmsman ROV PC directly to collect the
data without Moxa interfacing, we can use VNC to control it from the Bridge. Only
we need Serial to USB which we don’t have it at the moment.

10.1.5 Datamon

Datamon is mandatory to be switched on during the online, yet we don’t put it on

the warm start setup in order to make the data loading process lighter for NaviPac
during the system start, recommended to switch it on after the Online get the
position, and all database loaded to the Helmsman.

We tried to put it on warm start once, but the Datamon crashed straight away on
the first pop up, this also happened on NaviPac 4.5.

Online1 Datamon

Figure 8 Online1 Datamon Overall

If you notice to make it

On Online1 Datamon (NaviPac 3.10) we setup:

 Blackboxes (Vessel, ROV, Tugs, Diver), saved on online1 PC.

 Send ROV overlay, DVR1 Overlay (ROV), DVR2 Overlay (Diver), all by UDP

DSV Lichtenstein-1 Surveyor Handover Notes

 Receive ROV data (Togsnav) by UDP.

 Created heading generator (heading from 2 beacons) send by UDP and loop
back to Navipac. Handy for Mattress Frame heading, Spool Piece heading,
etc.

 Tug verification loggings. On Navipac Logging Data/Custom and NP Config,

we won’t get Tugs heading to logged, only the position. So on this Datamon
we are able to get this information also
