1.0 SCOPE / OBJECTIVES

This procedure covers the installation of UPVC Pipe work and ancillaries for soil,
waste, vent and storm water.
This will ensure proper workmanship and acceptable as per specification and contract
document.

3.0 ACCESS / EGRESS

Work will be carried out only when main contractor clearance given for access to
work. This will also ensure the requirement of scaffolding, ladders, etc.

4.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS

Health and Safety procedure by Main Contractor and Thermo will be implemented
for this job. A routine safety check will be done by the Safety Officer in charge as
per Thermo Safety Procedure.
a. Safety Lighting.
Safety Lights will be used in case there is a failure of normal lights and will
ensure that adequately provided.
b. Task Lighting
Adequate lighting will be provided in the work areas in order to execute the task
by all the workmen in the area.
c. Emergency Arrangements.
 General : Site general safety procedures will be followed and in case of
any emergency, safety officer will be administered the emergency
arrangements as per the system, stop the work and reporting to Assembly
Point, etc.

 Fire Precautions : General fire precautions will be maintained in the
site as per the approved safety procedure.

 Communication : Communication will be carried out in accordance


with safety procedures and reporting all issues in the site.
d. Risk and Controls
 Hazards / Risks : Please refer to the Risk Assessment attached in
Section 19.
 Control Measures / Permits : Please refer to the Risk Assessment
attached in Section 19.
 3rd Party Protection : Applicable as per the Contract only.
 Environmental Considerations : Generally will keep clean and tidy
work place during the installation job and as per the HSE procedure.

5.0 DEFINITIONS

5.1 The entire Drainage System network is connected to Municipality Sewerage


Drainage System with manhole and gully trap.
5.2 All apartment (W.C.) water closet drainage pipes are connected to riser soil
pipe.
5.3 Bathtub, washbasin, bidet, A.C. Condensate drain, Dish washer, Washing
m/c, etc., are all connected to floor and discharge to riser waste pipe.
5.4 All Wet areas are provided with floor trap with 70mm seats and grating with
covers.
5.5 Waste and soil pipe riser are connected to vent line riser to discharge foul
smell through riser shaft to roof level.
5.6 All Waste, soil and vent pipes are provided with vent cowl.
5.7 Roof drain water outlet are connected to storm water drain shaft and free
discharge at ground level.

6.0 RESPONSIBILITY / SUPERVISION


6.1 Project Manager will have the overall responsibility of the Project for
execution, quality and safety, maintain the planning & progress and
coordination with main contractor/ client/ engineer.
6.2 Project Engineer will be responsible for day to day activities in the site for
material installation, testing & commissioning including quality and safety.
Project Engineer will be reporting to the Project Manager.
6.3 Supervisor will be directly responsible for the day to day job in the site and
handling technicians and other labours assigned to his area. Supervisor will
be reporting to Project Engineer.

6.4 QA/QC Department will be looking after all the quality requirements for
the Project in co-ordination with the Project Engineer as per approved
Project Quality documents.
6.5 Safety Officer will be responsible for Health and Safety aspects in the site
in line with Main Contractor/ Client and Thermo Standard Safety
requirements.

7.0 PROCEDURES / METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED

7.1 PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKS

7.1.1 Prior to start of activity area and access will be inspected to ensure
the area is suitable for installation of UPVC Pipes & Fittings for
the Drainage System.
7.1.2 Prior to start of activity pre-inspection will be carried out for all
materials and ensure that they are complied with relevant
specification and are in sound condition.
7.1.3 Make sure that all openings are in correct location and adequate
size.

7.2 INSTALLATION OF UPVC

7.2.1 Prior to start of work supervisor and Plumbing Engineer for


execution or activity and ensure the construction drawings are
latest revision.
7.2.2 Supervision will ensure tools and equipment are suitable for
operations and compliance with contract requirements.
7.2.3 Chalk line will be layout for pipe work, to allow the installation of
pipe supports and anchors.
7.2.4 Pipe supports will be fixed in places in accordance with approved
construction drawings and maintained the elevations.
7.2.5 Pipe work slope will be checked to ensure that it is in proper
gradient as per approved drawing and specifications.
7.2.6 All open ends will be protected by plastic caps and to be removed
only when adjoining section to be installed.
7.2.7 Pipe work connection to final fixture will be made by anti-siphon
traps as per approved drawing requirements.

7.3 JOINTING METHODS.


7.3.1 Using handsaw/ drop saw/ pipe cutter/ chop saw as applicable
prepare and cut the length of pipe to be jointed, and ensure the cut
end of pipe is square and burr free.
7.3.2 Remove all dirt, swarf and moisture from spigot and socket.
7.3.3 Mark the pipe spigot with a pencil line at a distance equal to the
internal depth of the socket.
7.3.4 Degrease, rough up dry each spigot with emery paper and clean
with recommended cleaning fluid.
7.3.5 Use suitable size brush for applying solvent cement. Apply even
coat of solvent cement to the internal surface of the socket first,
then apply a thin coat of solvent cement up to the mark of spigot.
This will be applicable for all the pipes.
7.3.6 Make the joint immediately insert and twist the spigot socket so
that it rotates about ¼ turn. The spigot should be fully inserted in
the socket. Mechanical force may be required for larger size joint.
Hold the joint as per the manufacturer’s recommendation typically,
about 30 seconds.
7.3.7 Using clean rag wipe off any excess solvent cement which may
have built up on a pipe or fitting socket.
7.3.8 Leave the joints to set as recommended typically for 5 minutes
7.3.9 Testing shall not be started until at least 48 hours after completion
of the last joint.

8.0 TRAINING

8.1 Thermo employed all well experienced peoples for the execution of the
projects. In case any training requirements identified will be carried out in
accordance with Thermo Quality System / Safety procedure requirements.
All new employees are covered as Thermo standard Training system.
8.2 Tool box meeting will be carried out in every area where activities will start
and also every time when new labours start the activities.

9.0 WORKING HOURS

Normal Working shall be 7.00 am to 5.00 pm.

10.0 HOUSE KEEPING

All work place where Thermo people are working shall be kept clean and tidy. A
regular cleaning system shall be maintained in order to keep Healthy and good
working environment. This will ensure to maintain access and egress in the event of
an emergency situation.

11.0 MANPOWER REQUIREMENT & SUPERVISION

Job supervision shall be carried out in accordance with organization chart attached
in the Project Quality Plan.

However the manpower requirement, depending up on the planning programme


shall be submitted to main contractor during progress of the job.

12.0 MATERIAL REQUIREMENT

Materials shall be used as per the approved drawing and technical submittals.

13.0 PLANT & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT


a. General.
Hand hacksaw, File, Screw Driver, Spanner, Spirit level, Punch.

b. Plant and Equipment Schedule


Chop Saw Machine, Drilling Machine, Grinding Machine.

c. Personal Protective Equipment

Helmet At all the Time

Goggles
Mask According to the requirements, like cutting, grinding, etc.
Etc.
d. Power

Single phase / 3 phase normal power supply for using the light tools for
installation purpose.

e. Working Platforms

Scaffolding as per the requirements.

14.0 Q.C. APPROVAL AND OTHER DOCUMENTATION


Q.C. Approval carried out as per the approved Method Statements, Inspection Test
Plan and Inspection Check List.
After installation work is completed for a certain area Site Supervisor / Engineer
will co-ordinate with Thermo QC for inspection of the completed work. After
inspection, Thermo QC will submit the inspection request to ARABTEC for their
inspection and approval.
