COMMUNICATION AIDS
• anything that helps an individual communicate
more effectively with those around him.

• getting the correct equipment with the correct

software, mounted in the correct place, controlled
with a suitable method, and will be more than 40
percent of a solution

CHOOSING COMMUNICATION AIDS

• Will require careful assessment of the abilities and
needs of the individual so that the best device can
be chosen.

• majority of aids need to be programmed with

suitable messages and a structure to suit the
individual using the aids.

VISUAL PRESENTATION
• can be a very powerful tool to enhance the
impact of your presentations

• Words and images presented in different

formats can appeal directly to your audience's
imagination, adding power to your spoken
words.
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences

REASONS TO USE VISUAL PRESENTATION

• if they will save words - don't describe your

results - show them

• if their impact would be greater than the

spoken word - don't describe an image - show
it.

FUNCTIONS OF VISUAL PRESENTATION

• Improving Audience Understanding

TYPES OF TRADITIONAL VISUAL

PRESENTATION
• Artifacts or props

• White or blackboard

• Handouts

• Flipchart

• Video

TYPES OF VISUAL PRESENTATION

1. Artifacts or props

- Seeing the actual item will often

make it easier for your audience to
understand your meaning and will
help you connect with your
audience on an emotional level.
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences
An Autonomous University

WHEN USING ARTIFACTS/PROPS

• carefully consider how the object will be visible
to your entire audience when you are speaking
about it, and make sure it is out of sight when you
are not.

TYPES OF VISUAL PRESENTATION

2. White or Blackboard

- useful when it comes explaining

the sequence of routines and ideas

- good for developing diagrams

and simple headings and for
recording the interaction with the
audience during the sessions
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences

WHEN USING WHITE/BLACKBOARD:

• ensure that your handwriting is aligned

horizontally and is legible and large enough for
the audience to see

TYPES OF VISUAL PRESENTATION

3. Handouts

- Use a handout if your information

is too detailed to fit on a slide or if
you want your audience to have a
full record of your findings.
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences
An Autonomous University

WHEN USING HANDOUTS:

• consider distributing handouts as they are

needed during the presentation and allowing
time for people to review them before continuing
on

An Autonomous University

TYPES OF VISUAL PRESENTATION

4. Flip Charts

- a large pad of paper in a stand

- refers to a low cost, popular and

low tech solution to record online
meetings.

- you can either flip back through

the pad to help recap main points
or continue turning a page to show
progression from point to point.
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences
An Autonomous University

WHEN USING FLIP CHARTS:

• you can already make pre-prepared sheets for

key points

• make your writing clear and readable and your

diagrams as simple as possible

• Not suitable for large audience or venue

TYPES OF VISUAL PRESENTATION

5. Video

- gives you a chance to show

stimulating visual information

- Use video to bring movement,

pictures and sound into your
presentation
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences
An Autonomous University

WHEN USING VIDEOS:

• Always make sure that the clip is directly

relevant to your content.

• Tell your audience what to look for.

• Avoid showing any more film than you need.

TECHNOLOGY-BASED
COMMUNICATION AIDS
• Text Messaging

• Social Media

• Video Conferencing

• Email

• Video Presentation

• Slideware
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences
An Autonomous University

Slideware

- most commonly used form of

visual aid

- a generic term for the software

used create and display slide
shows such as Microsoft
PowerPoint, Prezi, Canva, Google
Slides, Zoho Show, Visme, etc..
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences

WHEN USING SLIDEWARE:

Do Don't
use a big enough font (minimum 20pt) make it so small you can't read it
keep the background simple use a fussy background image

but don't over-do the animation - it

use animations when appropriate
gets distracting

use endless slides of bulleted lists that

make things visual
all look the same

REMEMBER:

If Your PPT Provides More Information

Than You Do, We Don’t Need You.

The PPT Should Assist You in YOUR

Message

Don’t Let the PPT Slow Down the Speech

DESIGNING VISUAL AIDS

1. use one simple idea for each visual;

2. make the text and diagrams clear and readable;

3. avoid cluttering the image;

4. keep your images consistent (use the same font, titles, lay out
etc. for each image);

5. make sure your images are of a high quality (check for spelling
and other errors).
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City College of Arts and Sciences

ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS

10 - 20 - 30 - 10 Slides, 20 Minutes, 30 Font Size
1 - 6 - 6 - 1 Main Idea, 6 Bullets point, 6 Words
per Bullet.
7 - 7 - 7 Lines , 7 Words.
9Ps - Prior Proper Preparation Prevents Poor
Performance of the Person Putting on the
Presentation.
