FIRST READING
L: A Reading from the Book of Ecclesiasticus (1:1-10; 18-22)
All wisdom comes from God and endures with Him forever. The
grains of sand, the drops of rain and the days of eternity, who can
count them? The height of heaven, the extent of the earth and the
depths of the abyss, who can measure them? Wisdom was created
before all things and the prudent intellect before the beginning of time.
To whom was the source of Wisdom revealed? Who has known her
secret designs? One alone is wise and greatly to be feared. the One
who is seated up upon His throne. It is the Lord himself who created
Wisdom. He has looked on her and estimated her value. He poured her
out ever all His works; upon all mortal beings in accordance with His
goodness. He has lavished her on those who love him. My son, dedicate
yourself to the learning from your youth, and you will grow in wisdom
until your old age. Work at it like the worker and the sower, cultivate
wisdom and wait for her excellent fruits. For in cultivating her, you will
have some trouble, but soon you will enjoy her fruits. Wisdom is very
severe on the ignorant. A foolish man will not persevere. She will be
like a heavy weight or a difficult test which he will quickly throw away.
For wisdom brings her own honor, she does not reveal herself to
everyone.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Refrain: I love the Lord; He is filled with compassion.
He turned to me on the day that I called
From the snares of the dark, O Lord, save my life,
Be my strength

Gracious is the Lord, and just.

Our God is mercy, rest to the weary.
Return my soul to the Lord our God who bids tears away.
I love the Lord
(Refrain)

How can I repay the Lord for all the goodness

He has shown me?
I will raise the cup of salvation and call on His name.
I love the Lord.
(Refrain)

I shall live my vows to You before Your people,

I am Your servant.
I will offer You my sacrifice of praise and of pray’r.
I love the Lord
(Refrain)

Solo: From the snares of the dark, O, Lord, save my life

Be my strength. (2x)

SECOND READING
L: A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians
(3:12-16)

Not that I have secured it already, nor yet reached my

goal, but I am still pursuing it in the attempt to take hold of the
prize for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not
reckon myself as having taken hold of it; I can only say that
forgetting all that lies behind me, and straining forward to what
lies in front. I am racing toward the finishing-point to win the
prize of God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. So, this is the way in
which all of us who are mature should be thinking, and if you
are still thinking differently in any way, then God has yet to
make this matter clear to you. Meanwhile, let us go forward
from the point we have each attained.

R: Thanks be to God.
