WHAT IS IP ADDRESS

•An Internet Protocol (IP) address is the unique identifying number assigned to every device connected
to the internet

2.TYPES OF IP ADDRESS

•The terms public and private relate to the network location — that is, a private IP address is used inside
a network, while a public one is used outside a network.

3.CLASSES OF IP ADDRESS

•Class A IP addresses, where the 1st bit is 0, encompass the range of 0.0. 0.0 to 127.255. 255.255. This
class is for large networks and has 8 bits for network and 24 bits for hosts.

•Class B IP address is an IP address used for networks that are medium to large in size.

•Class C IP address is an IP address used in relatively modest local area networks or LANs. Small
businesses and household networks typically utilize Class C addresses. By reserving the first three octets
of the address space for the network ID, Class C can support nearly 2million networks.

•Class D IP address is an IP address not assigned to individual hosts but rather used for multicasting.
Through the use of multicasting, a single host is able to simultaneously transmit a single data stream to
thousands of other servers located across the internet.

•Class E IP address is an IP address used for research by individuals responsible for internet networking
and IP address development, management, and research. To create a Class E IP address, you must set
the first four network address bits to 1, enabling you to use addresses in the range 240.0. 0.0 to
255.255. 255.255.

4.DEFINE WHAT IS NAT

•A Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process of mapping an internet protocol address to
another by changing the header of IP packets while in transit via a router. This helps to improve security
and decrease the number of IP addresses an organization needs.

EXPLAIN HOW THE DHCP work

•network server that automatically provides and assigns IP addresses, default gateways and other
network parameters to client devices network protocol used to automate the process of configuring
devices on IP networks.
