Walking Support Banks

A crying baby makes its way into its mother’s arms. Screaming, crying, and
flailing its arms and legs out; there was no way out of it. The mother looks at her child
with a fond smile on her face, promising that she’ll always be by her child’s side no
matter what. Then, the father walks in with a blanket; tucking their child in and
whispering to his wife that he’ll be there to take care of them. A perfect a family; one
that is always the foundation of everything in a child’s life.

One thing that opens the doors for children is the support of their parents. From
the first ever words that come out of their mouths to their first day of primary school.
Starting from there, everything should be in place if the parents know what they’re
doing, from providing complete school supplies, to attending parent-teacher
conferences, and helping their child with their homework, especially in subjects they
obviously don’t excel at.

This would be ideal if all parents were as perfect as these, but they’re not. They
are bound to make mistakes, and that’s perfectly fine if they have a plan to fix their
wrongdoings. The thing about parents supporting their children academically is that they
tend to push too far.

Hoping for a world-class education for their child is what most parents tend to do.
However, realizing that the choice of school will dictate what kind of information the
child will be swallowing down is important. Swallowing information may be easier for
other children, and others will have a lump in their throat before having support to
swallow information down. Even if their child is somehow an “academic tool” who can
memorize a passage by simply looking at it, they still need immense support coming
from their parents.

By simply being an attentive parent; like asking what the child is learning about,
being all-ears whenever they want to tell something, and happily helping them with their
tasks can greatly affect how they view learning because they have people to lean on
other than themselves.

In support of this, students are more likely to be inclined with what they want after
school considering they have guidance other than their peers on what future is likely for
them. The industry is full of different fields that they can pick from, as the list of
possibilities is endless.

As scary as it seems, the industry is open to different kinds of people. Students

with an academic background where they learn to be industry-driven and to chase their
dreams are exactly what the industry is looking for—minds that are willing to accept,
learn, and experience more.

There comes a time that students don’t know anything about themselves or
they’re doubting on what they even want to do when the future comes. This is why
parents should act as a rock that can support the weight of their child’s problems as
well. Although it’s their parents’ first time living as well, they have more experience in
the world and the industry than their loving child—so, they should be the first ones to
empathize with their children when it comes to learning about themselves.

It’s not only the parents at home that should support students in figuring out their
capabilities, but also their second parents at school: their teachers. Their teachers are
likely to be more at their child’s presence in a week because of school, so they should
know that children need the guidance in their personal and school life.

Teachers are there to be mentors in life and academics, as they are always in
the presence of students. As mentors, they should only provide the best learning
experience, especially since they were once students themselves—they know the
feeling of being undertaught of something and being disregarded by their former
teachers.

School focuses on bringing education to students in order to prepare them to

adulthood by giving them basic life skills; such as reading, writing, and comprehending
passages. However, as students further progress in school, they are further from the
original mission of school—to teach them what’s essential.

Because of these flaws in the education system, students need more support
from their parent or parents to pick themselves up. At the end of the day, most students
come home to their parents, only wanting a simple “How was your day?” to be able to
express their frustrations and concerns.
Parents and teachers should be present in a child’s development because their
presence will make them into better people if they are too. Words of encouragement,
hugs of fondness, and smiles of pride should be shown and given to children. Though it
may seem like parents and teachers are walking support banks, it’s better than not
being one at all.
