Activities On Conduction, Convection, & Radiation
Activities On Conduction, Convection, & Radiation
Cajidiocan Campus
Cajidiocan, Romblon
INSTRUCTION: Provide your observations on the spaces provided below from the following
activities.
CONDUCTION:
Procedures:
1. Place a metal spoon and a plastic spoon in hot water.
2. Put a piece of chocolate on each spoon simultaneously.
3. Observe and compare how quickly the chocolate melts on the metal spoon
(conduction) compared to the plastic spoon.
OBSERVATIONS:
ROMBLON STATE UNIVERSITY
Cajidiocan Campus
Cajidiocan, Romblon
Procedures:
1. Inflate a balloon and tie it.
2. Hold the balloon over a candle flame without letting it touch.
3. Observe how the heat conducts through the air inside the balloon, making it
expand.

CONVECTION:
Procedures:
1. Fill two transparent containers with water, one hot and one cold.
2. Add a few drops of food coloring to each container.
3. Observe and compare how the food coloring spreads differently in the hot water
(convection currents) compared to the cold water.
OBSERVATIONS:
ROMBLON STATE UNIVERSITY
Cajidiocan Campus
Cajidiocan, Romblon
Procedures:
1. Place an ice cube in a glass of cold water and another in a glass of hot water.
2. Observe and compare the melting patterns of the ice cubes, noticing how convection
currents in the warm water affect the rate of melting.

RADIATION:
Procedures:
1. Cut a flap in a pizza box and cover the opening with plastic wrap.
2. Place aluminum foil inside the flap and add a dark-colored object (like chocolate
or cheese).
3. Leave the pizza box in direct sunlight and observe how the dark object absorbs
radiation, causing it to heat up.

B. Reflectivity Of Surfaces:
Materials:
1. Various materials (aluminum foil, paper, fabric, etc.)
2. Flashlight or a strong light source
Procedures:
1. Collect different materials such as aluminum foil, paper, and fabric.
2. Shine a flashlight onto each material and observe how they reflect or absorb light
(radiation).
3. Discuss how reflective surfaces can minimize heat absorption.
OBSERVATIONS:
