Application

Evo Lan WAF is particularly suitable for finishing lightweight wool fabrics to
achieve the anti-felt properties required to comply with the Woolmark
Company's Superwash specifications.
It is also used to pretreat sensitive wool qualities before dyeing to prevent felting
e.g. on softstream and jet dyeing units.
As well as giving the goods an anti-felt finish, suitable recipes can improve
dimensional stability, reduce pilling and snagging and increase abrasion
resistance.
High-fashion articles can be produced by applying Evo Lan WAF in a printing
process. Subsequent milling gives three-dimensional milling effects
(3D method).

Pretreatment of the goods

To obtain optimum anti-felt effects, the pH of the goods must be 6.5 - 7.5 before
finishing. Alkaline milling or pre-scouring without subsequent neutralisation is
recommended. Particularly uniform results are obtained with continuous after-
washing with Sera Wash brands because they ensure thorough removal of traces
of unwanted detergents.
No need to adjust the pH of the liquor.

Pad application

The following guide recipes are for pad application with a liquor pick-up of
60 - 70%:

Guide recipe for finishing before dyeing

20 - 50 g/l Evo Lan WAF

1 - 2 g/l Sera Wet M-DF
Dry and cure at 150 - 160 °C / 2 - 3 min. Make sure the finish is cured properly.

Important note
Neutral goods are sensitive to light after finishing. Exposure to light alters the
dyeing properties of the wool. The fabric should therefore be wound up after
curing and kept away from light. Fabrics should not be stored for more than
2 - 3 days before dyeing.
Plaiting down the goods is not recommended due to their sensitivity to light.
On blends such as WO/CV that are required to have good black/white resists,
treatment with Evo Lan WAF before dyeing can result in unsatisfactory white
resist effects. As a result the Evo Lan WAF film may be dyed.
Similarly, bicolour effects with high colour contrast often cannot be obtained on
goods treated with Evo Lan WAF. Preliminary trials are recommended.

Guide recipe for piece-dyed and yarn-dyed goods

The goods to be treated should have a neutral pH (6.5 - 7.5). Goods dyed in acid
liquors must therefore be neutralised with sodium bicarbonate or soda ash,
before application of Evo Lan WAF.

The finish is padded onto the fabric:

20 - 40 g/l Evo Lan WAF
20 g/l Evo Soft ELP
1 - 2 g/l Sera Wet M-DF
Pad with a liquor pick-up of 70 - 80%.

Dry and cure for 2 - 3 min at 150 - 160 °C with low tension and overfeed.
The goods can be dried at a low temperature followed by curing for 1 - 2 min
at 150 °C. If finishing is followed by kier decatising, curing at 140 °C is normally
sufficient.
Preliminary trials should be carried out to determine the optimum recipe for the
goods, handle and felting properties.

Water and oil-repellent anti-felt finish

Combined anti-felt and water and oil-repellent finishing can be obtained by

applying Evo Lan WAF in combination with Evo Protect FSU.
30 - 50 g/l Evo Lan WAF
40 g/l Evo Protect FSU
Pad with a liquor pick-up of 70 - 80%.
Dry and cure for 2 - 3 min at 160 °C.

Felt-free finishing for jet dyeing

Pad application

10 - 20 g/l Evo Lan WAF

1 - 2 g/l Sera Wet M-DF
Pad with liquor pick-up of 70 - 80%.
Dry and cure for 2 - 3 min at 160 °C.

Pad with liquor pick-up of 70 - 80%.
Dry and cure for 2 - 3 min at 160 °C.
