PHILIPPINE

E D U C A T I O N
Crisis
Poverty in the Philippines affects 16.7 million people, making
education a critical casualty. Many families struggle to afford
education, forcing them to work instead, perpetuating the cycle of
poverty for generations.

Philippine Education Crisis

The challenges facing the educational system in the

Philippines include issues most commonly w/
inequality and poverty which have forced Filipino
families, especially students, to continue pursuing
quality education despite the economic resources and
mental health toll of the pandemic . Teacher education
institutions in the Philippines are perceived to be
ready in terms of skills in selecting and integrating
digital resources for teaching and learning, but they
lack proficiency in using online class modalities and
digital enablers like augmented reality and robotics
due to the unavailability and inaccessibility of digital
infrastructure .

Evolution

With a population of over 100 million, the Philippines is a

country in Southeast Asia with a lengthy history of
colonialism. Spain was the first colonial power to settle
there in 1521. The American government established a
public school system as a result of the Spanish-American
War in 1898, which brought about substantial changes to
the educational landscape. Following 1946, the
government carried out changes to ensure that all
Filipinos, regardless of socioeconomic background, could
access education. The Philippine educational system still
has issues in spite of these attempts.

Recommendations and Solutions

The recommendable solutions for this social issue
is for government to give equal and fair distribution
to the access of free education and implement it
effectively. Nowadays, lack of awareness also plays
a crucial role for missing the chance in enjoying
free education. Hence, raising awareness of the
Government offered scholarships or Programs for
education should also be executed especially for
those who are living in far-flung areas or people
who are not reached by this kind of information
because of the absence of Media Infromation or
Media Technology to learn such things.
