Legal mandates of the Philippine Education

We Filipinos, value education much, but not everyone has the opportunity

to finish their education and earn their diplomas. The Filipino views

education as the primary means of acquiring knowledge. They

acknowledge that education may be acquired both inside and outside of

schools; As a result, the government is always working to establish laws

that will make education beneficial for all people. The constitution

provides the legal bases of education in the Philippines by Constitutional

mandate, all education institutions are under the supervision of, and

subject to regulation by the state. The DECS, CHED and TESDA are

charge with the administration of the school system.

Importance of legal bases of education

Promoting the rule of law through education also helps students in

acquiring the knowledge, competencies, attitudes, and values necessary

to make positive social contributions. It allows them to influence

governmental institutions and policies in a positive way, promoting non-

violent and peaceful forms of civic involvement.

Teachers must be aware of the legal foundations of education because

they serve as a guide for what we should and shouldn't do in and outside

of the classroom. It also emphasizes our limitations and obligations as

educators, students, and people in general.

Historical perspective of the Philippine Educational System

Studying the past helps us understand the educational process and the

way it has changed to the present day. In my own understanding, the

history of education is of utmost significance. Teachers of the 21st century

since it could help us better align our curriculum. The results of teaching-

learning help us avoid making the same mistakes again enables us to

appreciate the accomplishments of our educational system over the

years. Determination and effort in enrich the lives of our young learners.

It was proven that the Philippines had an education system prior to the

Pre-Hispanic era. Although their previous education was informal and

solely based on their essential skills necessary for life and work; this

alone demonstrates that Filipinos are capable of learning even

academically on one's own. The colonial history of the Philippines has left

a significant impact on the country's educational system. Periods of

Spanish, American and Japanese rule and occupation have all been a part

of that history. The most significant and long lasting contributions were

made when America began to colonize the Philippines in 1898. Ever

since the arrival of the Spanish until the present, the Philippines'

educational system has gone through numerous eras of growth. At

different eras of our fight for independence as a race, the government has

focused on/made education a priority in order to address societal

concerns. For me, in terms of education I personally believe and consider

that the colonization of the Spaniards, Americans, and Japanese as a

blessing in disguise.
