With the emergence of advanced technology , some of the children have forgotten to value the cultural

roots of Filipinos. Among these is the importance of literature in today’s society such as Epic and
Folktales. Philippine epics are lengthy narrative poems based on oral tradition. The verses were chanted
or sung while being passed from generation to generation before being written on paper. The plots of
their stories revolve around supernatural events and heroic deeds; whereas Philippine folktales are a
treasure trove of stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. These tales
entertain children and teach lessons about Philippine culture, traditions, and beliefs.

Philippine Literature is important because it tells the story of our people. It captures the essence of who
we are as a nation and helps us understand our culture and history. By reading and studying Philippine

Filipino epic poetry is considered to be the highest point of development for Philippine folk literature,
encompassing narratives that recount the adventures of tribal heroes. These epics are transmitted

get to know where we came from, what we were like, before the colonizers. In order to understand the
Filipino identity, we must look back at the musty pages of the past and see who we were, before we can
find out who we are. Through folklore, we are given a glimpse of how our ancestors lived in simpler
times. Moreover, it helps us make sense of the mysteries of the world through a lens we can uniquely
call our own. Fortunately, a lot of our countrymen have been keeping our myths alive through different
means.
