STEEL STRUCTURE – DANIEL ULTRASONIC SKID

1. INTRODUCTION
This document is aimed at the verification of the Lifting conditions of the steel structure of
DANIEL ULTRASONIC SKID.
These calculation notes should be read in conjunction with other project documents, listed
below (item 4). This way they complement each other, describing the service to be performed
and the materials to be used.

2. CODES AND STANDARDS

AISC - Manual of Steel Construction, Allowable Stress Design 9th Edition, 1989
AWS D 1.1 - Structural Welding Code-Steel, 1998.
Noble Denton – Guidelines for Lifting Operations by Floating Crane Vessels, 2002.

3. MATERIAL PROPERTIES
• Rolled Profiles: HP – ASTM A992 Gr. 50 → Fy ≥ 50 ksi (350 MPa), Fu ≥ 58 ksi (400
MPa).
• Plates: ASTM A36 → Fy ≥ 36 ksi (248 MPa), Fu ≥ 65 ksi (490 MPa).
• 6x19AA Class Wire Rope, General Use, Fiber Core.
• Welds: AWS E7018 → Fu ≥ 70 ksi (482 MPa)

5. SKID FOR DANIEL ULTRASONIC METER

The Structural analysis, the determination of internal forces and dimensioning of elements were
performed with the computer software "Ansys 16”.
For the design of frames the “Allowable Stress Design method" (ASD)” was considered,
according to the AISC rules.
Only the profiles of the primary structure will be analyzed in this review of the calculation note.

5.4. LIFTING boundary conditions

Skid will be lifted vertically by four lift points with one spreader bars. The following
figure illustrates the lifting arrangement:

In order to simulate this condition, one point was restrained in all three axis for
translation. The other joint were restrained inly for translation in Z.

5.5. ANALYSIS COMBINATONS

Three combinations will be made:

COMB1 (static): only the self weight and the weight of the pipe will be considered.
This combination will be used to obtain the forces in the sling and subsequent
dimensioning of pad eyes through manual calculations.

COMB2 (dynamic): the applied loads of self weight and weight of the pipes will be
increased by the 4 factors foreseen in Noble Denton GL 0027: fcp, fcog, SKL, and
DAF. This combination is used for the dimensioning of the skid assessories.

COMB3 (consequence): the applied loads of self weight and weight of the pipes will
be increased, in addition to the factors listed in COMB2, the consequence factor. This
combination is used for the dimensioning of the skid all structure conservatively.

The contingenci was applied:
