TITLE:
1 SCOPE
1.1 This TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION defines the minimum requirements for the
design, manufacture, qualification, acceptance tests, handling and installation of
subsea umbilical systems.
1.2 The umbilical systems applications, functional requirements and DWD are
presented in MATERIAL REQUISITION.

2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES
2.1 Unless otherwise specified, the latest revision of references shall be considered.
3.2 DWD: Design Water Depth. Water depth specified by PETROBRAS for which
umbilical shall be designed independently of operational water depth.
3.9 Umbilical(s): group of functional components, such as electric cables, optical fibre
cables, hoses, and tubes, laid up or bundled together or in combination with each
other.
3.10 Umbilical System: Umbilical, complete with end terminations and other ancillary
equipment
4 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
4.1 DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
4.1.1 PETROBRAS adopts the standardization of umbilicals, i.e., the same umbilical is
applied on different projects. For that, umbilicals shall be designed for hypothetical
scenarios defined by PETROBRAS, with conservative parameters, designated as
Design Scenarios. The Design Scenarios are defined by two ranges of umbilicals
DWD. The Design Scenarios are presented in reference [2].
4.1.3 For each project, the Project-specific scenario is presented in the MATERIAL
REQUISITION. The umbilicals, designed for the Design Scenarios, shall be
evaluated for the Project-specific scenario.
4.2 GENERAL
4.2.1 The umbilical systems shall be designed, manufactured and tested according to
reference [1] and this TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION.
4.2.3 The umbilical systems shall be designed to be installed by any of the installation
vessels presented in MATERIAL REQUISITION.
4.2.5 The umbilical systems shall not have umbilical joints, joint boxes, in dynamic
lengths.

4.2.6 The umbilical lengths that makes interface with subsea equipment shall not have
length between -50m and +250m of subsea equipment installed WD. The objective
is to avoid accessories interference in installation vessel tensioners or working
table.
4.3 LOADS
4.3.1.1 The umbilical systems shall be designed considering fluid conduits filled with
hydraulic fluid and at internal atmospheric pressure.
4.3.1.3 The umbilical systems shall be designed considering that loading on installation
vessel shall be made by tensioners of two tracks with 140° shoes angle.
4.3.2.2 The environmental loads for Design Scenario are presented in [2].
4.3.3.1 The extreme load combinations shall comply with requirements of reference [3].
4.3.4.1 The fatigue load conditions for Project-specific scenario are presented in the
MATERIAL REQUISITION.
4.3.4.2 The fatigue load conditions for Design Scenario are presented in [2].
4.4.1 The global, on-bottom stability, interference, installation and structural analyses
shall comply with reference [3].
4.4.2 The data for Project-specific interference analysis are presented in MATERIAL
REQUISITION.
4.4.3 The abandonment analyses for riser umbilicals with buoyancy systems shall be as
detailed in Table 4-I.

4.5.1 A fatigue life equal to, or greater than 3 times the service life may be considered
for umbilical systems without metallic tubes.
4.5.2 The procedures for construction of S-N data shall be present to PETROBRAS for
analysis and approval.
5.2.1 The low voltage/signal electric cables and terminations shall comply with reference
[5].
5.2.2 The medium voltage electric cables (power cables) and terminations shall comply
with reference [6].

5.3 HOSES
5.3.1 The hoses and terminations shall comply with references [7] and [8].
5.3.2 The hoses pigtails outer sheaths shall have apertures for air release during
umbilical system installation.
5.3.3 The hoses pigtails shall have stiffener elements to prevent hoses overbending.
5.3.4 The hoses terminations shall be marked with hoses identifications number. Two
identifications shall be marked in angles of 180° to each other and shall be legible
to divers. The marks shall be durable throughout umbilical system storage, load-
out, installation and operation.
5.4.1 The optical-fibre cables shall comply with the technical specification defined in
MATERIAL REQUISITION.
5.5.1 The tubes and terminations shall comply with reference [9].
5.5.3 All tubes welds, including tubes terminations, shall be x-ray inspected.
5.5.4 The tubes terminations shall be marked with tubes identifications number. Two
identifications shall be marked in angles of 180° to each other and shall be legible
to divers. The marks shall be durable throughout umbilical system storage, load-
out, installation and operation.
6.1.1 The terminations and ancillary equipment in 6.2, 6.3, 6.5, 6.9, 6.11 and 6.16 shall
be designed in load classes of SWL of 40tf (i.e., 40 tf, 80 tf, 120 tf, and so on).

6.1.2 The terminations and ancillary equipment shall be designed for abandonment in
umbilical system DWD.
6.1.3 The terminations and ancillary equipment dimensions shall consider dimensions
limits of installation vessels presented in MATERIAL REQUISITION.
6.1.4 The terminations and ancillary equipment for subsea operation shall be coated
according to references [10] (coating System No. 7B) or [11] and shall have
cathodic protection sized according to reference [12] for the umbilical system
service life plus two years of subsea abandonment. Anodes can be attached to
terminations/ancillary equipment or anode collars/clamps can be designed.
6.1.5 The terminations and ancillary equipment for surface operation shall be coated
according to references [10] (coating system No. 1) or [11].
6.1.6 The terminations and ancillary equipment coating shall ensure metallic continuity
between termination/ancillary equipment and fasteners, bolts and nuts.
6.1.7 The terminations and ancillary equipment painting shall comply with reference [13].
6.1.8 The terminations and ancillary equipment shall be marked with the drawing/part
number, a traceability code and the SWL. The marks shall be durable throughout
umbilical system storage, load-out, installation and operation.
6.2.1 The top and bottom end terminations shall have flanges API 6A type 6B 2000 psi
rated working pressure for interface with other equipment. Specifications of
nominal diameter of flanges are presented in MATERIAL REQUISITION. For
flanges with nominal diameter of 9” or greater SUPPLIER may consider reducing
number of bolt holes to 8.
6.2.2 The top and bottom end terminations shall have a system to prevent outer sheath
from slipping out of the end termination during umbilical system handling,
installation and operation.

6.2.3 The top and bottom end terminations shall have metallic continuity with umbilical
armouring.
6.2.4 The top and bottom end terminations for umbilicals with metallic tubes shall have
a system to anchor the metallic tubes and prevent axial and radial displacements
of tubes pigtails.
6.2.5 The top end terminations shall have sealing systems, in both extremities of
accessory, to prevent water to ingress in to the end termination during umbilical
system operation. The necessity of including an air release system to prevent outer
sheath rupture during umbilical installation shall be addressed. The top end
terminations interface with topside hang-offs shall be one of the standard grooves
presented in Table 6-I.
6.2.6 The top end terminations integrated with bend stiffeners shall have four padeyes,
each rated according to top end termination load class.
6.2.7 The bottom end terminations or bend restrictors shall have one of the standard
grooves presented in Table VI for support in the installation vessel. Groove shall
be located in a minimum distance of 1000mm from bottom end termination
interface flange and shall support installation loads in vessel deck.
6.2.8 The bottom end termination interface for bend restrictors shall be the same flange
defined in 6.2.1 for other equipment. SUPPLIER shall define number of bolt holes
for interface.
6.2.9 The bottom end terminations shall have two padeyes, each rated according to
bottom end termination load class.
6.2.10 The bottom end terminations shall be verified for loads according to reference [14],
cases: CVD 2ª – Topo (Caso 1), CVD 1ª – Equilíbrio (Caso 2) and CVD 1ª –
Lançamento (Caso 3).

6.2.11 The components pigtails shall be protected against overbending in the interface
with top and bottom end terminations, particularly in umbilicals with armouring and
intermediate inner sheath (see Figure 6-I).

6.3.1 The pull-in heads and handling heads shall be composed by two split parts. Each
part shall have at least one padeye rated and suitable positioned for handling.
6.3.2 The pull-in heads and handling heads shall have apertures to allow the access to
internal components for inspection, monitoring and/or testing purposes. For
handling heads the minimum dimensions for apertures shall be 270mm x 455mm.
6.3.3 The pull-in heads and handling heads shall have internal facilities to fasten
components pigtails.
6.3.4 The pull-in heads and handling heads shall have cathodic protection sized
according to reference [12] for two years of subsea abandonment.
6.4.1 The pull-in kit systems shall comply with reference [15].
6.5.1 The topside hang-offs shall be composed by two split parts. Each part shall have
at least two padeyes rated and suitable positioned for handling.

6.6.1 The bend restrictors shall be designed for a minimum coverage angle of 45°.
6.6.2 The bend restrictors shall be composed by split parts. The design shall allow it to
be completed assembled and disassembled from umbilical without the necessity
of removing umbilical end termination.
6.6.3 The bend restrictors interface with end terminations shall be a flange as defined in
6.2.8.
6.6.4 The bend restrictors or bottom end terminations shall have one of the standard
grooves presented in Table VI for support in the installation vessel. Groove shall
be located in a minimum distance of 1000mm from bottom end termination
interface flange and shall support installation loads in vessel deck.
6.7.1 The bend stiffeners shall comply with reference [16], except utilization factors for
metallic parts presented for GD cases where requirements of reference [3] shall
be considered.
6.7.2 The bend stiffeners cap areas that will operate in contact with bell mouth shall be
coated with abrasion resistant coating.
6.7.3 The bend stiffeners cap geometry shall comply with requirements of reference [15].
6.7.4 The bend stiffeners cap height for bell mouths with nominal diameter greater than
32” shall be 955mm (see Figure 6-II). For bell mouths with nominal diameter equal
to, or smaller than 32” the cap height shall comply with MATERIAL REQUISITION.
6.7.5 Internal bend stiffener metallic elements, structures and/or inserts shall not be
aligned with the end of bend stiffener cap (see Figure 6-II).

6.8.1 The rigid joint/bend restrictor shall be designed to prevent umbilical overbending
in the region between the top end termination and the bend stiffener during
umbilical system transportation, handling, pull-in, pull-out, abandonment and
recovery from seabed.
6.8.2 The rigid joint/bend restrictor shall stay resident in the top end termination after
umbilical system pull-in.
6.8.3 The rigid joint/bend restrictor shall not demand diver or ROV intervention during
umbilical system pull-in.
6.9.1 For umbilicals with metallic tubes a two piece spool shall be used for the interface
with other equipment. Two piece spool shall be designed to create a suitable space
to accommodate connections between metallic tubes pigtails and hoses jumpers.
6.9.2 The two piece spool shall be composed by split parts to be assembled between
umbilical bottom end termination flange and other equipment flange. Each part
shall have at least two padeyes rated and suitable positioned for handling

6.10.1 The joint boxes for umbilicals without metallic tubes shall be composed by at least
two split parts. Each part shall have at least two padeyes rated and suitable
positioned for handling.
6.10.2 The joint boxes for umbilicals without metallic tubes shall have the standard
dimensions presented in Figure 6-III.

6.11.1 The anchoring collars shall be composed by two split parts. Each part shall have
at least one padeye rated and suitable positioned for handling.
6.11.2 The anchoring collars shall have two padeyes for interface with umbilical system
anchoring system. Each padeye shall be rated according to anchoring collar load
class and shall be metallic insulated from shackles.
6.12.1 The fasteners, bolts and nuts subjected to installation and/or operation loads shall
comply with references [17] and [18].

6.13.1 The quick connectors for hoses and metallic tubes shall comply with reference
[19].
7 UMBILICAL DESIGN
7.1 The umbilicals shall be designed for dynamic and static operation.
7.2 The umbilicals without metallic tubes shall be designed with the minimum weight-
to-diameter ratio presented in Table 7-I. For umbilicals with metallic tubes or with
metallic tubes and thermoplastic hoses, the weight-to-diameter ratio requirement is
presented in the MATERIAL REQUISITION.

7.3 The umbilicals without metallic tubes shall be designed to be installed and retrieved
at least six times during umbilical service life.
7.4 The umbilical design shall provide the capacity curves described in Table 7-II.

TITLE:
7.5.1 The umbilicals shall be designed for a seawater temperature range of 4°C to 26°C,
an air temperature range of 12°C to 60°C.
7.6.1 For umbilicals with low voltage and medium voltage electric cables, the common
induction from the medium voltage cables in the low voltage cables, i.e. induced
voltage between conductors and between conductors and system reference
(screen or ground), shall not exceed 0.1 volt per kilometer. It shall be considered
the power frequency range from 1Hz to 120Hz.
7.7 ARMOURING
7.7.1 The armouring shall be composed by steel wires. The armouring design shall
consider the utilization factors presented in Table 7-III.
7.7.2 Utilization factors are relative to material yield stress or 0.9 times ultimate tensile
strength for materials for which tensile test cannot accurately identify the yield
stress. Utilizations factors shall be calculated as the maximum stress in the actual
layer divided by the minimum specified yield stress.

7.7.3 The steel wires shall be zinc coated according to reference [23].
7.7.4 The steel wires shall comply with requirements of reference [24] . The steel wires
welds shall maintain the same mechanical properties of wires.
7.7.5 The steel wires, and welds, shall be qualified according to tests described in
reference [24] and complementary tests/requirements presented in Table 7-IV.
The tests shall be performed for each dimension, class, type and supplier of steel
wires.

7.8.2 The outer sheath repairs shall have the same performance of the intact outer
sheath and shall be qualified by bending-tensile and crushing-tensile tests.
7.9.1 Each umbilical length shall be identified according to reference [25]. Two length
identifications shall be marked in umbilical outer sheath at every 100m in angles
of 180° or 90° to each other.
7.9.2 The umbilical lengths shall have circumferential stripes, stripes with minimum
width of 50mm, marked in umbilical outer sheath as following: one stripe at every
10m, two stripes at every 50m, three stripes at every 100m and one wide stripe
with a width about three times the one of other marks, at every 1000m.
7.9.3 The umbilical lengths shall have the umbilical outer diameter marked in umbilical
outer sheath at every 100m.
8 QUALIFICATION TESTS
8.1 When qualification is required, the umbilicals shall be qualified according to
reference [26].
9.1.1 The completed umbilical outer sheath shall be 100% visual inspected and shall be
free from damage, faults and sinuosity and shall have the required length marking.
9.1.3 The completed umbilical components terminations shall be 100% visual inspected
and shall be free from damage and faults and shall have the required identification.
9.3 The low voltage/signal electric cables tests on complete umbilical shall comply with
reference [1] and test parameters according to FAT of reference [5].
9.4 The medium voltage electric cables (power cables) tests on complete umbilical shall
comply with reference [6].
9.5 HOSES
9.5.1 For HCR hoses, after cleanliness to be met first time, the umbilical shall be spooled
twice and the fluid cleanliness shall be verified. If fluid cleanliness is lost the
umbilical shall be spooled and the fluid verified until cleanliness be met.
9.5.2 The flushing of hoses and tube shall comply with reference [27].
9.6 TUBES
10 DOCUMENTATION
10.1 The minimum information of documentation shall be according to reference [1] and
complementary information detailed in Table 10-I.
