Assessment - 2, Winter Semester- 2023-24 Course Code & Name: BCSE354E

Information Security Management
Slot : L57+L58 Class Number: VL2023240503105

Objective:
The objective of this lab assignment is to reinforce concepts related to network
configuration, troubleshooting, and addressing common network issues using Cisco
Packet Tracer.

Equipment Needed:
- Cisco Packet Tracer software
- Computers (PCs) with network interfaces
- Switches
- Routers
- Ethernet cables
- Console cables (if using physical devices)
- Documentation for reference (e.g., network diagrams, IP addressing scheme)

Tasks:
1. Network Setup:
- Design and configure a small network consisting of at least two PCs, one switch,
and one router.
- Assign appropriate IP addresses to each device based on a given addressing
scheme.
- Configure inter-device connectivity using Ethernet cables and ensure connectivity
between all devices.

2. Routing Configuration:
- Implement basic routing between different network segments using static
routing.
- Configure IP routing on the router.
- Set up static routes on the router to enable communication between networks.

3. Troubleshooting:
- Introduce deliberate network issues such as misconfigured IP addresses,
incorrect subnet masks, or routing problems.
- Use troubleshooting commands (e.g., ping, traceroute, show commands) to
identify and resolve the issues.
- Document the steps taken to troubleshoot and resolve each problem.

4. Security Implementation:
- Implement basic security measures such as setting passwords on devices.
- Configure access control lists (ACLs) to restrict or allow specific traffic based on
predefined rules.
- Test the effectiveness of security measures by attempting to access restricted
resources.

5. Documentation:
- Create network diagrams illustrating the topology of the network.
- Document the IP addressing scheme, including subnet masks and gateway
addresses.
- Provide a summary of configurations made on each device.
- Include troubleshooting steps and resolutions for any issues encountered during
the lab.

Submission:
- Submit the completed lab report including network diagrams, documentation,
configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
- Ensure clarity, organization, and thoroughness in documenting the lab activities
and findings.
