Describe how you will:


Introduce Lesson 3 min- The counselor will review the previous lesson of being a good
Topic/Focus: friend by asking the students what they remember about being a good
friend. Have a few share. Today, we will discuss more of the
characteristics of being a good friend, as well as some things that a good
friend doesn’t do.

Communicate the 1 min- Students will learn about the process, roles, and function of
Lesson Objective: friendship, and will learn about good versus bad friendships.

Teach Content: 4 min- The counselor will play the video “I can be a Kind and Loving
Friend”

Practice Content: 10 min- The students will work together to do the sorting activity. The
school counselor can distribute the cards evenly between the students
and the counselor can support them each to read their card and each
student can decide if their card represents being a good friend or a bad
friend.

Summarize/Close: 2 min- Explain that today we learned about what it looks like to be a
good friend versus a bad friend. Encourage the students to be a good
friend and to recognize when they aren’t being a good friend or when
others are not being a good friend to them.
