In Flagrante Delicto: A Roleplay Script

Setting: A dimly lit alleyway behind a popular nightclub. Moonlight filters through the fire escape
overhead.

Characters:

Officer Magno: A seasoned police officer, nearing retirement.

Detective Renz: A sharp and ambitious detective on the rise.
Sulay: A nervous young man, caught in the act.
Ladoy: Sulay's date, visibly shaken.

Scene:

(Sound of hurried footsteps and hushed voices echo through the alley. Officer Magno and
Detective Renz round a corner, flashlights cutting through the darkness.)

Officer Magno: (Whispering) Hold up, Renz. I hear something.

Detective Renz: (Eyes narrowed) Looks like a little post-club rendezvous. Let's see what's going
on.

(Officer Magno and Detective Renz cautiously approach the source of the sound. They find
Sulay with his hands on Ladoy's purse, her phone clutched to her chest, eyes wide with fear.)

Officer Magno: (Loudly) Freeze! Police!

(Sulay jumps back, startled. Sarah grabs her purse tightly.)

Sulay: (Stuttering) W-what's going on?

Detective Renz: (Stepping forward, badge glinting) We have reason to believe you were
attempting to steal from this young lady.

Sulay: (Voice rising) No! That's not what's happening!

Ladoy: (Trembling) He was trying to take my phone!

Sulay: (Looking desperate) Ladoy, please! You know that's not true!

Officer Magno: (Approaching Sulay) Sir, step away from the woman and put your hands behind
your back.

Sulay: (Hesitates, then slowly raises his hands) This is a misunderstanding!

Detective Renz: (Frisking Sulay) Let's see what else you're hiding.

(During the frisk, Detective Renz finds nothing on Sulay.)

Detective Renz: (Confused) Nothing on him.

Officer Magno: (To Ladoy) Miss, are you sure he was trying to steal from you?

Ladoy: (Tears welling up) Yes! I saw him reaching for my purse.

Sulay: (Pleading) Ladoy, please tell them the truth!

Detective Renz: (Eyes John suspiciously) Let's take you both down to the station and sort this
out.

Sulay: (Eyes wide) Wait! I can explain!

(Officer Magno puts handcuffs on Sulay.)

Officer Magno: Let's go. You have the right to remain silent...

(Sulay and Ladoy are led away from the alley, leaving the situation unresolved. As they
disappear into the night, Detective Renz turns to Officer Magno.)

Detective Renz: Something doesn't feel right.

Officer Magno: (Sighs) Let's hope they both tell us the same story at the station.

Sulay is innocent, and Ladoy lied to protect him from a past mistake.
Sulay was attempting to steal, but Ladoy fabricated a more serious accusation.
The situation is more complex, involving a secret relationship or blackmail.
