Illegal Arrest: A Roleplay Script

Disclaimer: This roleplay script depicts a fictional scenario and is not intended to promote or
justify resisting arrest. It's important to comply with police instructions in the moment, but you
can assert your rights later.

Setting: A sunny sidewalk in front of a coffee shop.

Characters:

Officer Magno: A young, overzealous police officer.

Ladoy: A young woman walking home from work.

Scene:

(Ladoy walks down the sidewalk, sipping her coffee. Officer Magno approaches her rapidly.)

Officer Magno: (Stern voice) Hold on right there!

Ladoy: (Startled) Me? Why?

Officer Magno: You fit the description of a suspect involved in a recent robbery.

Ladoy: (Confused) A robbery? But I haven't done anything!

Officer Magno: (Eyes her up and down) You match the clothing description perfectly. Put your
hands behind your back.

Ladoy: (Holds her ground) I understand you're doing your job, but there's been a mistake. I can
show you my ID, and I have witnesses who can confirm I was here all morning.

Officer Magno: (Impatient) Save it for the station. Now, turn around!

Ladoy: (Voice firm but respectful) Officer, I am complying, but I do not consent to a search.

Officer Magno: (Scoffs) You don't have a choice.

(Officer Magno lunges to grab Ladoy's arm. Ladoy pulls back, keeping her distance.)

Ladoy: (Calmly but firmly) Officer, I am asking you to stop. This is harassment, and I will be
filing a complaint.

Bystanders: (Start gathering, murmuring amongst themselves)

Officer Magno: (Flustered) You're resisting arrest! Don't make this harder than it has to be.
Ladoy: (Raises her voice slightly) I am not resisting! I am simply asking you to follow proper
procedure. I would be happy to cooperate if you can show me reasonable suspicion for this
detention.

(Bystanders start recording the scene on their phones.)

Officer Magno: (Looks around, embarrassed) Look, just come down to the station and we can
sort it out.

Ladoy: (Standing her ground) I will go down to the station, but only if you let me call my lawyer.

(Officer Magno hesitates, defeated. He sighs.)

Officer Magno: (Grudgingly) Fine. You can make your call. But this isn't over.

(Ladoy pulls out her phone and dials a number. Officer Jones looks frustrated as the crowd
watches.)

Ladoy's lawyer arrives and confirms her alibi. Officer Magno apologizes for the
misunderstanding.
The situation escalates, and Officer Magno tries to arrest Ladoy anyway. Ladoy films the
encounter and files a formal complaint.
