Leadership Fundamentals

Professor Alex Espaillat

Self-Analysis Paper

In taking leadership fundamentals, I have learned and grown so much over

the course of the class. I really have learned a lot more than I thought I ever

would in this class. I thought leadership was one-dimensional and that I already

knew all there is to know about leadership. But I was wrong, there is so much to

leadership that I have learned that I didn't know before. It is this class that I have

to thank for teaching me this, and I know that my leadership will be much better

in the future because of this class.

I have grown so much over the course of this class. From my arrogant

confidence to leadership I had before, to my new found information-backed

confidence as a leader that I have now, I have grown so much as a leader by

taking this class. Concepts that have helped my growth include the relational

Leadership Model, the social change model, and much more. It is these models
that really illustrated some of the concepts of leadership to me. They have

expanded my thinking bye showing me concepts that leaders should think about

that I did not think about before. When I wrote the initial planning paper I did not

know about any of these concepts and now that I do, I have evolved so much and

became a better leader. In teach the relational leadership Model, I learned so

much about the importance of relationships in the workplace. I learn respect is a

two way street. If you want respect in the workplace as a leader you have to give

it out. You have to treat people the way they want to be treated if you want to be

treated the way you want to be treated. It is all about respecting one another

while working as a team. If you have a good relationship with those you are trying

to lead, it will be much easier to lead them. In learning the social change model I

learned that people want to work towards change the model was built based on

the assumption that leadership is based on change for the benefit of others and

Society. People like to work towards change as long as the change is positive. And

using this model you can get people to work together through diversity, and work

towards positive growth through collaboration. I learned the importance of

diversity in working as a team. When you have people that come from different

backgrounds who had to face different problems you are more possible solutions

to a given problem has people think differently. You will also have everybody
working together towards positive social change by embracing diversity. You must

however treat people as the different people they are and recognize they come

from different cultures. That just comes with the relational leadership successors

you should have as a leader because you will learn how to treat others differently

to get them to be in the best work environment they can.

Almost all other concepts that I have learned in this class will guide moving

forward. Basically anything that made up my general leadership philosophy will

guide me moving forward. My Global Leadership philosophy is to lead in the best

way possible to create the most long term growth and success that you can. In

order to do so you basically have to just be the best leader that you can and use

everything you know about leadership. You must also keep trying to become a

better leader by studying other forms of leadership and applying the successes of

these forms of leadership to your own philosophies as a leader. That is why this

class is so useful because it is at the essence of my Philosophy of leadership

globally. This class has taught me many things that make up my global leadership

philosophy that I will use in the entrepreneurial field to be a better leader.

Leadership is viewed as well as valued in different ways based on different

cultures of life. In order to better our leadership we must use technology. The

leadership process is more about people than it is about things. Relational


leadership is important. One thing that brings people together is working towards

change. Self-understanding is essential to have authentic relationships with those

you lead. It is all this that I have learned in this class and so much more that

makes up my global leadership philosophy, and what I strive to use and the

entrepreneurial field. In taking this class I have learned a lot about leadership and

its Global philosophies that I can now apply to the entrepreneurial career field.

My Global Leadership philosophy lead in the best way possible to create the most

long-term success and growth as you can. In order to do, you must use all that

you know about leadership and apply this knowledge to your own philosophies

and practices as a leader.

Challenges in areas of improvement that exists for me come along with my

inexperience in a professional leadership role. I have had my experiences and

unprofessional leadership roles such as a sporting team or a friend group, but I

have not had much experience in the professional field of leadership. There's only

so much I can learn from a class such as this, in order to improve in areas of

leadership where Improvement is needed, I will have to become a leader in the

professional leadership field and learn from my experiences. Concepts that

pushed me out of my comfort zone include making a Global Leadership

philosophy. I had to craft a leadership philosophy off of what I have learned and
what I know about leadership. What push me out of my comfort zone was the

vagueness of the assignment, I had to create a Global Leadership philosophy with

not much outline at all. This made the assignment very useful as I had to be

creative and philosophical to create my philosophy and experience that I had will

benefit me in my future endeavors. My thinking needs further refinement in

labeling certain types of leadership. I tend to just do, rather than label and apply

philosophies to my leadership. It will benefit me to further look into models of

leadership and try to implement them into my own leadership. For my future

leadership experiences I hope to have great relationships with those I lead. I strive

to be the best leader I can, and I hope to learn from my experiences where I will

make mistakes. It is these points and goals that I find most important and me

being the best leader that I can be and that is why I hope to follow them in my

future leadership experiences.

I am glad I have taken this class because I have learned so much that I never

knew before and I have become a better leader because of this information that I

have learned. I would definitely recommend this class to other people to take

because of all that I have learned. I know that in taking this class I have become a

better leader and I will be more successful in my endeavor because of this class.
This class really taught me what it takes to be a great leader and I know I will be a

great leader because of this class.
