QUARTER 1 | LESSON 14
FINDING THE ROOT OF POLYNOMIAL
EQUATION BY APPLYING THE ZERO
PRODUCT PROPERTY

PRESENTED BY NATHANIEL STAN MANIANITA

Let’s learn about
Finding the roots polynomial equations
by applying the zero product property

A. zero - product property

B. factor theorem - through

synthetic division
EXAMPLE:
(x+1)² (x+5) = 0
1.
(x+1) (x+1) (x-5) = 0 roots are: -1
x+1=0 x+1=0 x-5=0 multiplicty: 5
x=-1 x=-1 x=5

2. (x-2) (x+2) = 0
x-2 = 0 x + 2 = 0
x=2 x= -2
roots are: 2 & -2
3. x³ + 6x² + 11x + 6 = 0
Degree = 3
Constant = 6

1 + 6 + 11 + 6
+1 1 7 18

1 7 18 24
(not)
1+ 6+ 11+ 6
-1 -1 -5 -6
1 5 6 0

(x²+5x +6 -1 is root)
1+ 5+ 6
+2 2 14
1 7 20 (not)
x+3 = 0
x= -3
( -3 is root)
1+ 5+ 6
-2 -2 -2
1 3 0

( -2 is root, x+3 root are -1, -2, -3 )

SEATWORK!
1. (x+3)(x-2)(x+1)(x-1)=0

2. (x+5)(x-5)(x+5)(x-1)=0

3. (x+4)^2(x-3)^3=0

4. x(x-3)^4(x+6)^2=0

5. x^2(x-9)=0
