This study examined how social media influences junior high school students' academic

performance in Marawi City, Philippines, during the 2022-2023 academic year. Using a
descriptive-correlational research approach and simple random sampling, it found that students
use social media for research, problem-solving, peer interaction, and learning but found no
significant correlation between social media usage and academic performance. Educators
recommend responsible social media use in learning, and school administrators are urged to
support teachers in integrating social media into classroom activities.

This research evaluated the Facebook usage of 591 randomly selected senior high school
students in Southern Philippines during the 2017-2018 school year. Using the Bergen Facebook
Addiction Scale, it found that 61.3% of students were classified as Facebook addicts.
Interestingly, students who spent less time on Facebook tended to have lower grades, while those
with more gadgets at home performed better academically. However, the study found no
significant association between Facebook use and scholastic performance.
