Don Pedro: About Juan!! I know nothing.
Don Diego: Father, remain cheerful! Pedro and I, have brought the
Adarna bird, which has the ability to heal you.
Don Pedro: Let's put Juan out of our minds and listen to the Adarna bird's melody instead.
Don Diego: Adarna Bird, sing at once, and cure the king’s malady.
“Silence”
Don Pedro: Adarna bird, I tell you to sing. The King is waiting for your soothing melody.
King Fernando: I'm not convinced you brought the Correct bird.
King Fernando: My sons, this bird doesn't appear to be as lovely as the one I saw in my dream.
Narrator: When suddenly a young man enters the palace unexpectedly, escorted by three lovely ladies. When the
king sees the man, he confirmed that it was his youngest son who is Don Juan. And after that, the birds start to sing
a very calming and soothing melody,
“Song”
Narrator: Once upon a time, in a far far away, the kingdom of Berbania was ruled by the great King Fernando and
his Queen-wife Valeriana. These monarchs had three sons: Don Pedro, Don Diego, and Don Juan. The king
cherished Don Juan to such an extent that when he dreamed one night that his son would be beaten by two
unidentified individuals, the king became ill with a disease that no doctor in the entire kingdom could cure. And
one night, the king once more has a dream in which the sole remedy for his illness was the song of the fabled bird
known as the Adarna, which can only be found at Mount Tabor. He quickly called the Queen and his three sons,
Don Pedro, Don Diego, and Don Juan To his presence.
King Fernando: I had a wonderful dream, my dears. A lovely lady appeared in my dream she
repeatedly said, "If you desire to recover, my dear king, Let the Adarna bird come here to sing."
Queen Valeriana: But, my king, how can a bird's song treat your malady

ADARNA BIRD
King Fernando: The adarna bird was magical, it possessed many colors and sang so sweetly that its melody would
easily cure any illness. But catching this bird was not only difficult and tedious but also deadly dangerous. It might
mean the death of the ones catching it. Besides, the bird could be found only at night and only at a certain tree,
known as Piedras Platas, in Mount Tabor.
Don Juan: We'll obtain that mystical bird father together with my brothers.
King Fernando: I know you'll succeed, but I can't let you all leave at once.
Don Pedro: As your eldest son, I urge you to give me that task father.
King Fernando: Then you have my permission to go, Pedro. May God bless and guide you on your journey.

East, crossing rivers, mountains, valleys, plains, and other geographic, that separated Berbania from Mount Tabor.
After several months of travel, he arrived at his destination. He stumbled upon an Old Leper who was begging for
food, but Don Pedro refused to give any to him. He simply walked up to the tree. However, the bird was not
present because it was still early in the night. As a result of his exhaustion, he decided to sleep under the tree. He
was still asleep when a beautiful bird landed upon that tree. The bird sang seven songs and then pooped. When
the dung dropped on Don Pedro, he was instantly transformed into stone.

King Fernando: Could he have been harmed? I'm having dreams about Pedro's misfortune.
Queen Valeriana: Put your faith in God. Our child will indeed be safe.
King Fernando: I wouldn't be at ease till I see my son Pedro again.
Don Juan: Father, would you mind if I go to Mount Tabor? I'll look for my brother and catch up with him.
King Fernando: No, Juan. You are too young to go on such a dangerous journey.
Don Diego: Well, Father, let me go this time. As the second eldest, I can handle myself.
King Fernando: Diego, you may leave with my blessings. Take good care of yourself,
Son, you're on your own.

King Fernando: “very mildly” My Queen, have you heard anything about Pedro and Diego?
Queen Valeriana: None, my dear.
King Fernando: I'm concerned about what happened to the two princes. I should not have provided
Their consent to go on such a perilous journey.
Queen Valeriana: “sobbing” I have a premonition that both of our sons are dead.
King Fernando: And I, the King, have sent them to their doom.
Don Juan: Please don't blame yourself, Father. Furthermore, are we certain that they are
are no longer alive?

Queen Valeriana: Our only hope is our son Don Juan, who is clever and compassionate. God will undoubtedly
protect him.
King Fernando: ”impulsive” So go, my child. May God guide and protect you for the sake of our kingdom.

ADARNA BIRD
Scene VI
(Journey)
Narrator: Don Juan set off on his perilous journey early the next morning. To search for his two brothers and the
mysterious bird, on the bank of a river at the foot of Mount Tabor, Juan encountered a ragged old leper who
seemed to want to cross. Don Juan did not hesitate to help because the old leper's knees were wobbling and his
muscles were stiff, he hopped onto his back and they crossed the river. After they crossed the river, Don Juan
shared his meal after hearing the old leper's stomach rumbling. He was captured with the virtues and excellent
manners of the young prince. Moreover, understanding the job on which he had undertaken, he placed Don Juan
on the watch against the legendary bird's treachery, intrigue, and cunning. The elderly gentleman spoke out.
Old Leper: One good turn merits another. I know where you're heading, son. Your mission, however, is
challenging, and you require assistance. When you reach the top of the next mountain, seek a little stone
cabin where a hermit lives. He'll tell you what to do.
Don Juan: “feeling grateful” Grandpa, thank you very much. I won't be able to wait much longer.
Old Leper: Best of luck, and may God bless you, son!

Scene VII
(Hermit’s Cave)
Narrator: Don Juan saw the stone cabin, just as the old leper had described. A kind old hermit greeted him as
though he had been expecting Don Juan.

there. The bird will sing seven times, changing the colors of its plumage with each song. It will fall asleep after
singing the final song. That is the right moment to capture the magical bird. However, it cannot be captured
with your bare hands. Here's a golden string to tie the bird's legs together. No other cord can be used for this
purpose.
Don Juan: Thank you kindly, good hermit. I am prepared to travel with God's and your assistance.

ADARNA BIRD
Hermit: No . . . Not yet. Adarna's song contains a magical charm. It relaxes the listener and puts them to
sleep. Keep a sharp eye out, since if the poop of a bird falls on you, you will turn to stone.
Hermit: Bring seven tiny lemons and a knife. After each song, cut your arm and apply lemon juice to the
wound. You'll be awake because of the agony. Stay away from any bird droppings. And lastly. This is a dipper.
A well may be found next to the tree. Pour water into this dipper and pour it over the two large stones
beneath the silver tree. Your stunned brothers will be resurrected. . . You may go now, son.
Don Juan: Thank you very much; I will never forget you, kind hermit.

began to sing. What a lovely tune! Don Juan struggled to keep his eyes open while he listened. However,
remembering the hermit's advice, he quickly sliced his arm and then pressed the juice of a lemon over the
wound. The agony kept him awake. The bird waved its wings and changed colors after the song ended It

as the hermit had said, let its poop fall after the seventh song, then it closed its eyes and went to sleep. Don
Juan sneaked up the silver tree and wrapped the golden cord around the bird's legs. While carrying the bird,
he filled his dipper with water from the little well and poured it on the two large stones beneath the tree. The
two stones began to move and took on human bodies in an instant. Don Juan recognized his two long-lost
brothers, Don Pedro and Don Diego, who were standing in front of him. He couldn't believe his eyes till they
said something.
Don Pedro: Juan, what brings you here? And how about you, Diego?
Don Diego: I fell asleep.

Don Juan: The Adarna Bird brother.
Don Pedro: It certainly is! When and how did you catch it, Juan?
