Friedrich Wohler
He was a German chemist, known for his work in inorganic
chemistry, being the first to isolate the chemical elements beryllium
and yttrium in pure metallic form. He was the first to prepare several
inorganic compounds including silane and silicon nitride.

Hermann Kolbe
Kolbe studied chemistry with Friedrich Wöhler at the University of
Göttingen and earned his doctorate in 1843 with Robert Bunsen at the
University of Marburg (Hesse). After serving as Bunsen’s assistant,
Kolbe accepted in 1845 a postdoctoral position in London as assistant
to Lyon Playfair, a chemist and a member of the British Parliament.
