ROBERT BOYLE

INTRODUCTION

 Born 25 January 1627

 Died31 December 1691


(aged 64)

 Anglo-Irish,
Natural Philosopher ,
Chemist, Physicist and Inventor.

 Largely
regarded today as “The First
Modern chemist”.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

 Robert Boyle’s education began at home.

 Hestarted he’s college career at the age of


eight in England at Eton College.

 His
studied mainly theology and the
humanities and also mathematics.

 In
1654, Boyle moved to the university city of
oxford and studied the works of scholars.
INVISIBLE COLLEGE

A group of “Natural Philosophers” or


scholars interested in what is now known as
natural science.

 Boyle first came involved in the Invisible


College when he moved in stalbridge manor
in Dorset ,in England in 1646.

 The group later became as The Royal


Society.
ROYAL SOCIETY

 The first twelve members included Boyle,


John Wilkins, Christopher Wren, Sir Robert
Moray and William Viscount brouncker.

 Italso helped that Boyle had his works


translated into Latin, the international
language of the scholarship.

its volume (v) at
constant temperature.

 Boyle said that the

sizes capable of
arranging themselves
into group and that
constitutes a chemical
substance.
HITORICAL BACKGROUND
 Boyle became involved in Invisible College

during the English Civil War. The group kept a


low profile at this time.

 After the restoration of monarchy in England,


the group formed the foundations of The Royal
Society, which was recognized in 1660.

 King Charles II supported the Royal Society.

 After the restoration in 1660,while in Oxford


Boyle published of his written works.
IMPACT TO THE SOCIETY

 Boyle’swork became know around the


world, Thanks to The Royal Society.
