Importance of Hydrology
• Overtopping and consequent failure of Earthen Dam.
• Failure of Spillway due to Surplus flow.
• Breaching of bridges and culverts due to excessive flow.
• The inability of large reservoirs to fill up with water due to overestimation of stream flow.
• Almost all phases of the hydrological cycle are non-uniformly distributed both in time and
space.
• It is necessary to study and interpret these variabilities with the aid of hydrologic studies.
