support for developing proper WASH practices at home and the community to
prevent the spread of COVID 19.

B. WASH in Schools (WinS)
W
ater, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools (WinS) is one of the many
programs in the Department of Education which aims to provide safe drinking
water, improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities, promote lifelong
health for children in schools and most importantly plays a vital role in
protecting one’s health as we face this COVID- 19 pandemic. The program
also promotes proper hygiene practices among school children and a clean
environment in and around schools to keep learners safe and healthy during
this uncertainty. The activities under the WinS program help the school in
improving the quality of education it provides to its clientele and in achieving
desired learning outcomes.
During the Brigada Eskwela implementation, Del Carmen Integrated
School includes WinS activities as part of the Brigada Eskwela plan for the
school knows that its integration to the plan is of utmost relevance. It is such a
blessing because the volunteers and stakeholders of the school fully supports
the activities and are committed to expand and improve the implementation of
the Wins program.

The conduct of WinS activities in Del Carmen Integrated School during

the Brigada Eskwela implementation 2020 despite this difficult time was
indeed a success.
1. Provision of Water Supply through

Installation of Rainwater Catchments
The newly installed water source can now be found in the following
buildings: grades 4 and 3, grade 5 and 6, grades 1 and 8-B,
kindergarten and grade 9, canteen and grade 10 buildings respectively
where learners can easily access as the needs arises. Class in charge
of the said water source maintain its cleanliness and took good care
of it all year long.
The realization of the said project was through the effort of
the school principal with the help of the General Parents Teachers
Association officer (GPTA).

2. Improvement of
Existing Toilets
Despite of the non-face- to- face learning because of COVID-

19, the existing toilets in the classrooms of Del Carmen Integrated
School still sustained its cleanliness, and enhanced its aesthetic features
through the hard work and support of the Brigada Eskwela volunteers.
This shows how the school values health and proper hygiene for the
common good of everybody. By this, DCIS constituents showed
appreciation on the value of cleanliness and shared responsibility.

3. Improvement of Individual
and Group Handwashing
Facilities
Through the collaborative

effort of the parents, teachers,
and other stakeholders, despite
this difficult times, the dream
to have a cleaned and improved
washstand was realized.
Sooner, by God’s will if
this pandemic will come to an
end, learners will be able to use
the upgraded washstand or sink.
They can freely wash their
hands before and after eating
meals. Even after using the
toilet or even before and after
eating their snacks.

4. Improving Accessibility to
Water Through Provision of
Concrete Footpaths
To prevent
water to flow freely
that can cause muds
and slippery walkway
towards the
classrooms, a
concrete footpath
was properly placed
in front of all water
source. DCIS
believed this was
necessary despite of
the non- face- to-
face learning due t
COVID- 19.
Sooner, when
learners will report
back to school, they
will have easier
access in fetching
water going to and
back to their
classrooms. Through
the kindness and
generosity of our
parents and other
stakeholders these
projects were
realized and
becomes functional.

5. Provision of Rest Space For

Menstruating Girls That Are
Private, Secure And Comfortable
DCIS was committed continuously

in taking good care on the welfare and
the needs of women amidst this COVID-
19 pandemic. Women or girls especially
secondary, were provided some special
space for their special needs for we
understand how important their personal
needs and their needs of comfort and
security.

6. Improvement of Drainages,
Cleaning of Roof, Gutters, and
Elimination of Stagnant Water
Drainage, gutters and roofs were some

of the stuffs that were being prioritize
despite of this difficult times (COVID- 19).
Del Carmen Integrated School always set
cleanliness as one of the top priorities. Aside
from that, this will also prevent some
accidents that will happen like overflowing
water and breeding sites for dengue
mosquitoes.

7. Provision of Hygiene
Supplies (Cleaning Supplies,
Soap, Alcohol, Face Mask) for
COVID- 19 Protection
Provision of this personal hygiene from

our dear stakeholders are deemed necessary
and helpful for DCIS constituents, parents and
learners as we battle together COVID- 19. All
of this health essentials were distributed to
parents for DCIS truly cares for the welfare
and health not only of our learners but to
their family as well.

cleanliness especially as we
battle COVID- 19. DCIS made
all sort of garbage segregation
and waste disposal. This was
necessary not only for our
environment but also for our
health as we are facing this
difficult moment. During the
Brigada Eskwela 2020 these are
on top of the list.

9. Putting up Hygiene Messages in

Strategic Places (Toilet and Eating
Places)
COVID- 19 doesn’t stop DCIS by posting

important reminders to strategic places in school.
Hygiene messages were posted in the eating places to
serve as a constant reminder to all users to be
responsible in cleaning their respective areas after
eating. In the same way, the hygiene messages that
were posted in the toilets remind the learners and other
users to practice proper hygiene by keeping the toilet
clean at all times and wash their hands every after
toilet usage.

the Community to Prevent the
Spread of COVID- 19
To help the government in educating the people on how to combat

COVID- 19, DCIS make a move by conducting an orientation to parents
and other stakeholders on the importance of Wins and WASH practices at
home and in the community. DCIS administration made themselves as the
resource speakers in educating them on the proper things to do to maintain
and protect the welfare and health of their children and also their family.
During the orientation, DCIS administration with the help of some
stakeholders, pledge to provide the parents with some health essentials for
them to use to protect themselves and their family for COVID- 19. The
orientation had been successful and had been an informative one and was
believed useful for everybody.

11. Distribution of COVID- 19 Health

Essentials
To help the parents in achieving their goals to protect their children

against COVID- 19 as our implementing partners during this uncertainties, Del
Carmen Integrated School together with the help of some of private sectors
donated protection and sanitation materials such as face masks, soaps, tissues,
Vitamin C and alcohol disinfectant particularly to parents/ guardians who helped
the school in maintaining the cleanliness and its orderliness amidst this pandemic.
Headed by the School Principal, the DCIS family distributed to some

parents/ guardians the health essentials inside the school premises. The
distribution was done in accordance with the Department of Health’s protocol
with temperature scanning, face mask on and physical distancing of 1 meter. This
activity was done by the school to motivate the parents to work hand in hand
with the school to educate and protect their children- our learners.
