 Name of game:
o Pass the Story
 Summary of how game is played
o Each student writes the beginnings of a story for 3-5 minutes. This can be anything they
wish to write about and can be fiction or non-fiction. When the timer is up, they pass
their paper to the student sitting next to them. Each student then writes again for the
same amount of time to continue the new story. This then gets repeated and modified
by the allotted time the chosen. It can end with the student that started the beginnings
of each story, or the teacher can stop the students at their leisure.
 What skills can be taught/learned by engaging in the game?
o This game teaches students to take a situation and make it their own. This also allows
each person to think outside the box and ably fast thinking. It also shows that in the
eyes of another, a story or project can go a whole different direction than what was
originally anticipated. This game can also teach communalism and showcase the ability
to share control in a situation.
 Who is the audience for the game?
o Anyone with the ability to read and write with some proficiency. I would say 4 th grade
and up.
 How might you use this game in your classroom
o In the hope that I would be teaching in the sciences I would use this game in my
classroom to show how science builds upon other individuals’ discoveries and
contributions. It is never just one person who rights the entire story of a discovery,
others build on each other’s achievements and this game can show that in a simple
manner. This can also be modified slightly as an ice breaker for the beginning of the year
introductions with the same concept of use in the classroom.
 Why would you choose this game in our classroom?
o For our classroom, I would choose this as stated above. The psychological foundations
of education were built on other people’s contributions and ideas, but nothing is ever
finished. As future educators we need to be able to think outside the box in some
situations to make the education process available and accessible for each student. This
would require continued thinking as well as the buildup of other contributions to make
the educations system better.
