newcomers by providing comprehensive service and
assistance, theme workshops, boot camps, and social events.

VIVRE ENSEMBLE: CONNECTING CULTURES

“Vivre Ensemble: Connecting Cultures” will provide accessible


and high-quality language education to international students
and newcomers and empower them to learn French, thereby
promoting inclusion and bridging cultural divides.

In line with our objective of building bridges, we organize


theme events that encourage cross-cultural interaction and
engagement. These cultural experiences help break down
barriers, build empathy, and strengthen bonds among
participants.
Course Syllabus

French For Beginners

Introduction

Welcome to our French course for beginners! I am Yukti Sharma, your French instructor. I am
delighted to assist you in exploring the beauty of the French language.

Throughout this program, we will delve into the fundamental aspects of the French language,
encompassing grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and culture. We will cover topics such as
greetings, numbers, common expressions, and much more, ensuring a comprehensive learning
experience that encompasses reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Do not hesitate to embrace your mistakes, for it is through them that we learn. Communication is key,
and from the very beginning, we will encourage oral practice. We will also incorporate audio and
visual resources to make the learning experience interactive and engaging.

I look forward to embarking on this linguistic journey with you.

Course Objectives

Throughout this course, our primary aim is to equip you with essential language skills and knowledge
to engage effectively with the French language. By the end of this program, you can expect to achieve
the following:

1. Speaking: Develop the ability to communicate basic information in French. You will be able to
introduce yourself, hold simple conversations, and provide straightforward descriptions.

2. Listening: Enhance your listening skills to understand and extract important details from
spoken messages in French. You will gain the confidence to comprehend and respond to
everyday conversations.

3. Writing: Attain a basic grasp of linguistic structures to convey simple information in writing.
You will be able to compose short messages and texts in French.

4. Reading: Develop your reading skills to extract necessary details from simple French texts,
allowing you to understand basic written information.

5. Confidence: Cultivate the confidence to interact in French, whether it's through speaking,
writing, or listening. You will be empowered to engage in French no matter the medium.

Additionally, this course will introduce you to the cultural aspects of learning French, with a focus on
the Canadian context. You will gain an appreciation of French culture and customs as they relate to
Canada.

Assessment will be ongoing, with formative assessments such as classroom activities and participation
throughout each teaching module. Summative assessments in the form of short tests at the end of each
module will help gauge your progress and achievements. These objectives and assessments are designed
to guide you towards a successful journey in learning the French language and culture.

Evaluations

Formative Assessments: Throughout the course, you will be engaged in ongoing


formative assessments, which are designed to monitor your
progress and understanding. These will include:

- Participation in classroom discussions where you can practice


speaking and listening skills.
- Active participation in online discussion platforms to enhance
your engagement with the course material.
- Completion of homework activities to strengthen your
reading, writing, and grammar skills.

Summative Assessments: At the end of each module, there will be summative assessments
in the form of short tests. These assessments will cover a range
of language skills, including listening, reading, writing,
grammar, and speaking, based on the topics covered in each
module.

Final Assessments: At the conclusion of the course, you will undergo final
assessments that focus on assessing your overall language
proficiency. These will include:

- A written test evaluating your knowledge of grammar,


reading comprehension, and writing skills.
- A speaking test, which will include a monologue and a
dialogue with the professor. This will test your ability to
express yourself confidently in French.
To pass these assessments, a minimum score of 60% is required.

These assessments are designed to provide a comprehensive


evaluation of your language skills and your progress
throughout the course. They will help you to gauge your
proficiency in various aspects of the French language and
ensure that you are well-prepared for your linguistic journey.
