My internship at Magnolia Medical Group has been a transformative journey into the
world of healthcare, providing me with invaluable hands-on experience. This week, I focused on
learning to administer Subcutaneous (SubQ) and Intramuscular (IM) shots. These skills have not
only enhanced my technical abilities but have also allowed me to contribute meaningfully to
patient care.
One of the focal points of my internship has been learning the intricacies of Subcutaneous shots.
This method involves injecting medication into the fatty tissue just beneath the skin.
Understanding the proper technique and mastering the art of administering SubQ shots has been
a pivotal aspect of my learning. The precision required in locating the appropriate subcutaneous
tissue and the importance of angle and depth have been important aspects of this skill set.
into administering Intramuscular (IM) shots. This technique involves injecting medication
directly into the muscle tissue, requiring a different approach in terms of needle insertion and
depth. Learning IM shots has broadened my capabilities, equipping me with a diverse set of
Beyond the technical aspects of my internship, I have found immense love in working
with patients, particularly in the context of medical weight loss. Assisting patients on their
journey towards healthier lives has been incredibly rewarding. Whether it's providing guidance
on dietary choices, monitoring progress, or offering emotional support, being part of their

This week at my internship at Magnolia Medical Group, I got to witness a few new
medical procedures in the office. The highlight of my week was the opportunity to shadow
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections into the cervical spine, offering a unique insight into
regenerative medicine. This procedure involves utilizing the patient's own blood, processed to
concentrate platelets rich in growth factors. The injection of this PRP into the cervical spine aims
to stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. My shadowing experience allowed me to observe the
precision and care required in performing such intricate medical procedures, emphasizing the

utilized in microneedling to help the skin regain collagen and all the “good” nutrients extracted
from the blood. Not all microneedling procedures use PRP, but the one I witnessed did choose to
Finally, another significant aspect this week involved learning to read and interpret lab
results. This skill is fundamental in understanding a patient's health status and formulating
appropriate treatment plans. Analyzing various lab reports has provided me with a
well-being. I feel as if knowing how to interpret lab results is crucial in any healthcare job, and I
was incredibly grateful to have been guided through the steps of learning it.

My third week at Magnolia Medical Group was terrific, continuing my internship journey
this semester. This week, I got to witness a couple of new procedures, which included laser
tattoo removal and permanent makeup, providing me with invaluable insights into the
intersection of medical technology and aesthetic procedures. Furthermore, I also dove more into
lab results on the other spectrum, which included watching the intricate process of drawing the
blood from the patient before it gets sent out to the lab.
Witnessing laser tattoo removal revealed the intricate process involved in erasing ink
from the skin's canvas. The precision of the laser, tailored to target specific pigments, and the
consideration of individual skin characteristics highlighted the complexity of this procedure. The
patient is first numbed with “BLT” cream, which is benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine. This
cream sits on the patient’s desired tattoo removal area for twenty minutes before the procedure
begins. The purpose of the BLT cream is to make the tattoo removal as comfortable as possible
for the patient during the entirety of the procedure. The removal itself only takes around ten
minutes, but most patients need multiple sessions to remove the entirety of the tattoo.
In addition to laser tattoo removal, I had the privilege of observing a patient receive
permanent makeup application, which included the meticulous crafting of eyebrows and
eyeliner. The fusion of medical artistic skill became apparent as the practitioner, Madison,
carefully enhanced the patient's features. The transformative effect of permanent makeup on the
healthcare, blending the technical precision of medicine with the artistry of cosmetics. It was
extremely rewarding being able to witness the patient look at her new appearance and see her

My fourth week at Magnolia Medical Group was amazing, and it truly feels like time is
flying by at my internship site. I feel so connected with the women I work with and am confident
to say I will have a new “work family” even past my time at the office. This week, I got to
witness a few new procedures, which included microneedling with PRP on a double mastectomy
patient, allergy shot administration, bursa injection in the hip, systematic steroid injection, and a
PRP knee injection. I definitely got to explore multiple new procedures this week, making it one
To begin, PRP was the star of this week. One remarkable experience involved shadowing
microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) on a patient who had undergone a double
mastectomy. Microneedling, coupled with PRP, is not only a cosmetic intervention but also a
therapeutic approach, promoting skin rejuvenation and enhancing the overall well-being of the
patient. The patient was receiving microneedling over her scars so that they could become
smooth enough to get synthetic nipples. As a ZTA, I have worked directly with breast cancer
education and awareness, so this procedure and patient left a special impact on my heart. In

Along with PRP, I also shadowed other injections. First, I saw a bursa injection in the
hip. The injection showcased the intricacies of musculoskeletal interventions, addressing pain
and inflammation in a targeted manner. The shot directly targets bursitis inflammation of fluid-
filled sacs and joints. In addition, I witnessed a patient receive an allergy shot and another patient

My fifth week at Magnolia Medical Group has continued to be great, and it truly is flying
by at my internship site. This week, it was more repetitive with procedures now that I have been
there for over a month. Although it has been repetitive , I am still excited everyday to watch the
procedures and grow closer with my coworkers and patients; I feel so blessed!
One new thing I experienced this week, however, was botox day! I was super excited to
experience my first botox day since it is only once a month. The office is usually closed on
Fridays for all treatments other than Invasired treatment and chiropractic services, so I do not go
in. However, one Friday a month is dedicated to botox and fillers, which was this week. It was so
cool to see the botox and filler procedures, especially since botox is what originally got me
drawn to the career as an aesthetic nurse. While it was only a half day, I gained lots of
knowledge about Botox and filler and was taught by the nurse practitioner, Casey Black. I loved
this week, especially this Friday, and am still thrilled that I am able to have my internship at

My sixth week at Magnolia Medical Group has been fantastic, and time is really flying by
during my internship. This week, the procedures have continued to feel more routine since I've
been here for over a month, but I still find myself excited every day to observe them and build
stronger connections with my coworkers and patients. I feel incredibly grateful for this
experience!
One new thing I experienced this week, however, was a chemical peel. Medical chemical
peels are cosmetic procedures used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or
hands. The peel consists of applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate
and eventually peel off, revealing smoother, rejuvenated skin underneath. Chemical peels can
help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven skin tone.
The peels can also be customized based on the patient's skin type and desired results. This
In addition, I also had a long conversation with our nurse practitioner, Chelsea, about me
going to nursing school. It was a breakthrough conversation, and I realized that nursing is truly
my calling. I have been considering medical sales, but my heart strings are pulling at nursing
school and the conversation with Chelsea really validated that. In the upcoming week, I plan to
sit down with Chelsea and figure out what nursing plan would best suit me and my needs. I feel

My seventh week at Magnolia Medical Group has been wonderful, and my internship
continues to be passing by quickly. As I become more accustomed to the procedures after being

relationships with my colleagues and patients. As the weeks progress, I see fewer and fewer new
procedures, but I learn much more about them with every repetition. I am beginning to feel more
significantly grown, leading to my ability to now administer allergy shots with ease. This
newfound comfort is a testament to the hands-on experience and guidance I've received during
my internship. On my first day here, my supervisors had me give an injection on them and I was

On Tuesday, a representative from Merz Aesthetics came into the office to further train
one of our Nurse Practitioners, Casey, on aesthetic filler. Caroline, the representative, went
through two demo patients with Casey and taught her new techniques on filler. With each
woman who volunteered to be practiced on, I was able to see different types of filler and how
they could be administered on the body. I felt so lucky to be able to sit in on this training session
and experience what it is like to be taught different techniques. In addition, I spoke with

I have been administering Sub-Q and intramuscular shots on patients for quite some time
now, and have been building my confidence in doing so. Our Nurse Practitioner, Chelsea, likes
to say that I am “taking my training wheels off.” I like how she always will tell me right before I

with her help I was successfully able to draw the patients blood! When I knew I hit the vein and

My time at Magnolia Medical Group is flying by, and I still cannot fathom how blessed I
am to have been given the opportunity to intern at such an amazing office. This week, nothing
exciting really happened. I have continued to gain more knowledge on procedures as I have sat

patients and community members in Greensboro, I hope to network with some individuals to
This week, however, I did get to see patients who are receiving a series of treatments with
PRP microneedling and tattoo removal. The PRP microneedling was performed on the patient
who lost both of her breasts due to breast cancer. She came in six weeks ago for her first
appointment, and I got to witness her getting her scars microneedling. The purpose of the
microneedling with PRP is to eliminate scarring and assist the healing process. Once her
treatment plan is over, she intends to get synthetic nipples, but the scarring must be eliminated
prior. As for the tattoo removal, this was the patient’s third round of treatment. The tattoo is
slowly breaking up and it is making a noticeable difference in the tattoo itself. This patient
probably has around five more sessions until the tattoo is completely removed. It feels very
rewarding to help patients like this and give them a sense of confidence back. The breast cancer
patient went through a traumatic illness, and I am so happy for her to be able to have cosmetic
alterations to help fuel her self-esteem and give her a sense of “normality.” As for the tattoo
patient, they are eliminating the guilt of getting a tattoo that they regret. Overall, I feel incredibly

While I was not in the office this week, I have been continuing to plan for my final

I cannot even begin to fathom that it is already April; this semester has truly flown by. It
is bittersweet knowing that graduation is right around the corner. I am so excited for the next
chapter in my life, but I am also sad to leave my current chapter. I have thoroughly enjoyed my
time in Milledgeville, at Georgia College, and at my internship with Magnolia Medical Group. I
know that this is just the beginning and that success awaits me on the other side. With my Public
This week has been as repetitive as the other weeks. With each new week going by, there
are fewer new things that I am learning and watching daily. However, I am beginning to truly
master the skills that I have acquired during my time at MMG. While this week was pretty
routine, we did go to The Glen nursing home in Greensboro to present allograft to current
residents. It was incredibly rewarding to see a bunch of elderly people look over the graphic I
made - it made it seem so real. I am excited to present my project next week, as I have worked
The last “eventful” thing of this week was a potential job offer! I have been back and
forth between nursing or medical sales, and I have been pondering and praying over my options.
With medical sales, it is incredibly hard to get into the field without connections. When I was
bartending at work Thursday, I was speaking to a bar guest about my plans after graduation. The
bar guest has a nephew who was in medical sales and is extremely successful, so she put in a
good word for me and gave me his number. He presented me with a challenge: if I can get one
sale in the Milledgeville area, he will hire me. I am stoked to be given this opportunity, and I am
working hard to make this happen; I know I will. So, Dr. K, if you know or have friends who

there are only a few more weeks left of college. I have been feeling an abaundacne of emotions:
excitement, nervousness, fear, joy , etc. I am not someone who likes change, so graduation is
going to be an adjustment for me as I enter my new chapter in life. It still blows my mind that my
internship with Magnolia Medical Group has flown by as fast as it has. It is hard to imagine that
in a short few weeks I will no longer be with them, and it truly makes me sad. However, instead
of being sad now, I am going to enjoy my time remaining at the office and make the most of it!
At the office this week, it was pretty repetitive again. On the contrary, however, I was
able to spend a whole day with Madison, our permanent makeup artist. I got to see her do various
permanent eyebrow and eyeliner techniques, along with facials. The facial that she offers is
called HIFU. HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, which is a non-invasive skin
treatment that that uses ultrasound energy to activate collagen production in the deep layers of
the skin, resulting in skin tightening and lifting. The ultrasound energy penetrates the skin
triggering the body's natural healing process (holistic, regenarative and natural). Most indivuals
choose to do HIFU since it has minimal downtime and similar results to a surgical face lift. After
the first patient Madison performed HIFU on, it was crazy to see the immediate results. While
some results were immediate regarding skin tightening, the skin will continue to lift and tighten

I still can hardly believe that April is here, signaling the end of this semester and my
college journey is nearing its conclusion. As the reality of graduation approaches and starts to
feel more real, I continue to have a mix of excitement, nervousness, fear, and joy. I took my
graduation photos this week, which made it all feel so much more real. I am desperately grasping
onto the last of my college days, and I will continue to make every day count!
This week was also relatively routine with procedures. The one different thing, however,
is that I had my presentation on Wednesday. Completing my presentation took a huge weight off
my shoulders, and it further reminded me that the end is near. It was gratifying to present my
project on Allograft in its entirety. While I was presenting the information to my coworkers they
obviously were well aware of allografts and what they are. However, teaching them about the

Other than my presentation, I overall had a fantastic week. I am still in the works of

for a reason! Additionally, aside from my internship, I got my medallion this week for reaching

college is almost over, and I have been relatively anxious about it. I know once I settle back in at

meantime it is hard to rationalize with myself when I know graduation is approaching so soon.
Aside from the nerves and anxiety, I have been doing great!
This past week at the office was pretty routine and I have continued doing well with
injections. On Thursday we did a CO2 laser demo day with Madison, which was a very cool
procedure to witness! CO2 resurfacing laser therapy is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses a
carbon dioxide laser to improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and diminish scars by removing
layers of damaged skin and stimulating collagen production. Patients have raved about their CO2
