1. Case-study
In a fair, a giant wheel was fixed. The giant wheel is in the shape of a circle divided into
12 equal sectors as shown in the diagram below.
The highest point of the wheel is 150 m above the ground level and the boarding
platform of the wheel is 10 m above the ground level. Based on the given information.
2. For completing a particular type of embroidery work, 2 women and 5 men take 4 days.
Also, the same work was completed in 3 days by 3 women and 6 men.
3. 100 m Race
A stopwatch was used to find the time that it took a group of students to run 100 m.
Parabolas are symmetric about a vertical line known as the Axis of Symmetry. The Axis of
Symmetry runs through the maximum or minimum point of the parabola which is called the
vertex.
Based on this, answer the following questions.
(i) If the highway overpass is represented by x²-2x-8, find its zeroes.
(ii) The highway overpass is represented graphically. Zeroes of a polynomial can be
expressed graphically. Number of zeroes of polynomials is equal to the number of
points where the graph of polynomial cuts the axis. Name that axis.
(iii)Write the quadratic polynomial representing the Highway underpass whose one zero
is 6 and sum of the zeroes is 0.
OR
(iii)Find the number of zeroes of f(x) = (x - 2)2 + 4.

A translation is a transformation that occurs when a figure is moved from one location to
another location without changing its size, shape or orientation. ΔABM is translated to the
position ΔMTS.
6. Vijay is trying to find the height of a tower near his house. He is using the properties of
similar triangles. The height of Vijay's house if 20m when Vijay's house casts a shadow 10m
long on the ground. At the same time, the tower casts a of Ajay casts 20 m shadow on the
ground.
7. An auditorium has 20 seats in the first row, 24 seats in the second and 28 seats in the
third row and so on.
8. In the given figure, PQ is a tower and AB is a building of height 50 m. From the top of the
tower, the angles of depressions of the top and the bottom of the building are 45° and 60°
respectively.
9. Case-study
The vertices of ||gm are P(1, 2), Q(4, y), R(x, 6), and S(3, 5).
Based on this answer the following questions.
(i) Find the value of x.
(ii) Find the value of y.
(iii) Find the area of the triangle PQR.
(or)
(iii) If the line 5y=4x+k passes through P and R, find k

Two friends Seema and Aditya work in the same office at Delhi. In the Christmas
vacations, both decided to go to their hometowns represented by Town A and Town B
respectively in the figure given below. Town A and B are connected by trains from the same
station C (in the given figure) in Delhi. Based on the given situation, answer the following
questions:
(i) Who will travel more distance, Seema or Aditya, to reach to their hometown?
(ii) Seema and Aditya planned to meet at a location D situated at a point D represented by
the mid-point of the line joining the points represented by Town A and Town B. Find
the coordinates of the point represented by the point D.
(iii) Find the area of the triangle formed by joining the points represented by A, B and C.
OR
(iii) Find the ratio in which y-axis divides the join of the points B and C.
12. Case-study
The angle of elevation of the top of a tower from the top of a 7 m tall building is 60° and
the angle of depression of the foot C of the tower from the same point is found to be 45°.

A taxi charges a base fare plus a certain amount for each kilometre. The rates are show
table below.
Based on the above information, answer the following:
14. Case-study
The following diagram shows the position of three electric poles A, B and C in a society
park.
Inspite of three poles in the park, the kids playing in the park complained about darkness in
the park. So, the society president decided to place 2 more poles in the park.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) Identify the type of triangle formed by joining the points A, B and C, in terms of lengths
of the sides.
(ii)The fourth pole is placed at a point D such that ABDC forms a parallelogram. Find the
coordinates of D.
(iii) The fifth pole E is to be placed such that it divides the line segment joining B and A in
the ratio 2:3. Find the coordinates of E.
OR
(iii) Find the coordinates of the point of intersection of the diagonals of ABDC
A part of a roof with trapezoidal shape needs to be tiled with roof tiles. The bottom row
needs 95 roof tiles, and every higher row needs one roof tiles less than the row below it
until there are 76 roof tiles needed for the top row.
