The journal article I have found , Student Teacher’s Challenges in Developing Teaching

Materials During Teaching Practicum in School, discusses the challenges of the student

teachers in developing teaching materials during teaching practicum in schools. The challenges

faced by student teachers in crafting teaching materials/instructional materials are namely: the

lack of student teachers knowledge on the student's field, the lack of supervision time, and

finally, the confusion in selecting media for students. The main problems being tackled in the

article shows that it is really difficult to come up with teaching material and be effective in

actually improving the student’s learning skills.

There is a significant link between the cited problem being discussed in the article and to my

university/field. My university crafts teaching materials that are thoroughly examined by the

university’s proponents, that is why it is effective and actually improves the student’s learning

skills. However, in the article, it deals with the problems of student teachers in creating effective

teaching materials. Of course they would find it very challenging as they are still students and

still in the process of getting the hang of creating effective instructional materials. The difference

is that in order to craft an effective teaching material, one should be fully engaged with the

academy and have full and ripe knowledge in the subject matter.

The author in the cited article states that in order to overcome the problem, the student

teacher needs to learn the student field, communicate with the supervisor and fellow students

teachers and finally, to understand the student level of knowledge and consequently, choose a

suitable media. These solutions seem to be effective because they address different areas. It

not only focused on the students but also in the students field , the supervisor and the fellow

student teachers. However, I suggest that evaluating the learning center and the environment

would also be an effective solution to address this problem. This problem is centered on the

students, the student teachers are challenged to come up with effective teaching strategies fit to
the students. So therefore, focusing more on the comfortability of the student’s environment

would be good. This article is timely and relevant as we produce more student teachers in the

educational field. It is important for them to know the strategies in teaching and using

instructional materials as soon as possible in order for them to equip themselves with

knowledge so that in the future, when they are already a full-fledged teacher, they can come up

with an effective teaching materials and their students will be more engaged and enthusiastic in

learning.
