EXPLORING

MATHEMATICS
THROUGH PLACES:
A PLACE-BASED APPROACH INSPIRING
NUMERACY THROUGH REAL-WORLD
CONTEXTS
In this presentation, we delve into the
concept of Place-Based Mathematics
Education, highlighting the significance
of utilizing photography of places to
bridge mathematical concepts with real-
world scenarios.
WHAT IS
PLACE-BASED EDUCATION?
AND
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT?
Place-Based Education, in simple terms, is an
educational approach that focuses on connecting
learning to the local environment, community, and
culture. It emphasizes using real-world contexts,
such as the immediate surroundings of students like
their neighborhoods, towns, or regions, to teach
academic content.
Place-Based Approach is important as it helps
students connect to their surroundings, fostering a
sense of belonging and understanding of their
community. By learning in familiar environments,
students develop a deeper appreciation for where
they live and are inspired to take care of their world.
Common examples of Place-Based Education
Now, let's learn about the
mathematical questions so
that we can better assess
ourselves.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, Place-Based Education offers a powerful way to
connect students with their surroundings, making learning more
engaging, relevant, and meaningful. By integrating local
contexts into education, students develop a deeper
understanding of their environment, community, and culture,
fostering a sense of responsibility and connection. This
approach not only enhances academic learning but also
cultivates a sense of stewardship and appreciation for the
world around us.
