Abortion

Abortion is when a pregnancy is ended so that it doesn't result in the birth of a child.

Sometimes it is called 'termination of pregnancy'. Abortion is one of the most controversial

issues of today’s society. Many women feel it is their right to choose, but some feel the exact

opposite. Some believe that if a woman has been raped or a victim of incest, abortion should

be used. But this is the wrong view because if a woman who is raped can’t kill her rapist who

is guilty, why should she be allowed to kill her child who is innocent? No matter how this

baby happens, it is not her or his fault, so why should you be taking away a childs right to

live?

The Oklahoma House of Representatives adopted a resolution this week stating that

abortion is "murder" and is to be opposed by state leaders. Life begins at conception, so

unborn babies are human beings with a right to live. Fetuses feel pain during the abortion

procedure, so is they can feel something, they are humans. The Bible shows us in different

passages that abortion is wrong and a sin. Exodus 21:22 is the first fetal homicide law and

concerns the child harmed during a separate assault.

"If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no

harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman's husband imposes on

him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give

life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for

wound, stripe for stripe." –Exodus 21:22-25

The passage imposes only a fine on the criminal who accidentally causes a premature birth,

but the punishment is life for life if the baby then dies. This shows that God equated the life

of the unborn with that of the born, and abortion with murder.

Abortion causes psychological damage. A study in California University of post-

abortion patients only 8 weeks after their abortion, found that 44% complained of nervous

disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances, 31% had regrets about their decision, and

11% had been prescribed psychotropic medicine by their doctor. Also, a study of Bowling

Green State University said that post abortion patients had higher rates of anxiety, depression,

alcohol, use of drugs and suicidal behavior compared to those who have not had an abortion.

We can see how this can affect a lot of women who think abortion is their only solution.

Abortions reduce the number of adoptable babies. The percentage of infants given up

for adoption in the United States declined from 9% of those born before 1973 to 1% of those

born between 1996-2002. Business library reported that there are up to 36 couple waiting for

every 1 baby placed for adoption. Many times, regardless of the child´s medical problems

such as Down Syndrome or a specific deformation. Having the opportunity to bring a baby to

this world is the best thing that can ever happen to a woman. Many women don’t have this

opportunity, so that’s why they adopt.

Abortion does not make you un-pregnant, it only makes you the mother of a dead baby. Don’t

take away a childs right to live. This child has no voice, which is why it depends on yours. If

you don’t want the baby, there are many other solutions you can go for, like put them for

adoption. There are women who are dying for having and loving that child, don’t kill their

dreams. Go for what is right and don’t become a criminal for abortion. Don’t do evil that

good may come, remember they are innocent and they deserve the opportunity to live.
