1. Installation
It is required that the installer implementing this procedure marks the boxes located to the right of
the items to indicate acceptance of the item.

If the item has been completed the technician must mark the YES column to indicate compliance
with associated item (non-compliance should be indicated by marking the NO column).

Once all items in each section have been checked, the installer should then initial and date his/her
findings directly below the items.

The completed and signed check list with the required data MUST be forwarded to Netwave Systems
BV, pls send the check list with all required data items and additional documentation in one zipped
file to:

netwavesystems.wetransfer.com

Netwave Systems BV MUST receive the completed check list before activation of the VDR Warranty.

1a. VDR & Component Mounting

All bolts are tightened.

There is easy access to cable entries and hatches.

There is space from all sides of the Core module (as outlined in Netwave Systems
Operator and Installation Manual).
The Core Module is mounted where it is out of direct sunlight, away from heat
sources and away from places subject to rain and water (as outlined in the
Netwave Systems NW6000 Operator and Installation Manual)

BCU is mounted correctly in an easily accessible position at the bridge.

VDR Data Port is easily accessible on the underside of the bulkhead casing.

Microphones are positioned to provide best audio coverage of all workspaces.

1b. Mounting of FRM Capsule

Capsule is installed in accordance with IEC requirements.

All bolts are tightened.

Data cable is connected securely, grounded and is watertight fed in the


deckmount.

1c. Mounting of TRON40VDR Float Free Capsule

Capsule is installed vertically in accordance with IEC requirements.

All bolts are tightened, and steel protection plate is mounted.

Data cable is connected securely and the cable gland into the junction box is
taped.

Emergency instruction plate is mounted next to the FFC bracket.

1d. Cable Installation

Data cable from VHF interface to Core Module is run and installed.

Data cable between Audio Hub(s) unit are run and installed.

Data cable from DAQ module(s) to Core Module is run and installed

Data cable from Bridge Control unit to Core Module is run and installed.

Data cables from the radar/video interface to Core Module (if applicable) is run
and installed.

Data cables from LWE sources are run and installed

Data cable to the FRM is run and installed.

Data cable to the TRON40VDR capsule is run and installed.

Ship’s emergency power cable to the Core Module is run and installed.

AC Filter is installed and connected.

ALL Ethernet cables are confirmed to be shielded maritime type (minimum CAT6
preferable CAT7) and have proper shielded (metallic) RJ-45 plugs properly fitted

The Microphone cables from the interface to the mic’s are connected according to
the installation instructions

Ferrite cores are installed on the microphone cables on both sides

All cables are marked with number and/or source designation according to the
cable plan.

Ensure for each cable terminated at the VDR that the source end is connected to
the proper output.

BCU, Core Module, DAQ module case plate, video module are grounded to ship’s
hull

Ensure the ship’s breaker is switched off.

2. Set to Work & Commissioning


It is required that the installer implementing this procedure marks the boxes located to the right of
the items to indicate acceptance of the item.

The ship can be dockside for this procedure.

Test Conditions

• VDR is powered on.


• VHF sources are powered on.
• ECDIS & Radars are powered on at least in standby mode.
• Sensors / Data sources are transmitting data.
• Ship at sea or engines operational (as required).

Connect the configuration laptop to the VDR as per NW6000 Operator and installation manual

After checking and configuring all related sensors, create a dataset by downloading 5 minutes of
data with voice test.

2a. Bridge & VHF Audio is configured for recording

Check if audio signal is being received in VDR using the ‘identify’ method in configurator.

Using the configurator, configure all connected microphones and VHF audio.

Microphone OPT test is passing successfully for all microphones.

Audio is clear during data playback on all recorded channels.

Both transmit and receive of VHF’s are being recorded properly.

VHF audio is clear upon playback of data.

2b. Video sources are configured for recording

Video Sources appearing correctly in video live test on the connected PC.

2d. BCU is functioning properly


All softkey buttons are functioning correctly.

LCD Display is displaying appropriate warnings & alarms.

Alarm display shows RECORDING page when alarm clears.

RECORDING page shows Long Term, Netwave Capsule and Free Float Capsule (full VDR)

Operational Performance Test can be performed

2e. FRM Recording is configured


Data can be downloaded from the capsule using the download software.

All 48 hours of required IMO data is present (after sufficient time of recording is
performed). Check at 3 intervals (end, middle, beginning)

2f. Float Free Recording is configured


Data can be downloaded from the capsule using the download software.

All 48 hours of required IMO data is present (after sufficient time of recording is
performed). Check at 3 intervals (end, middle, beginning)

Confirm that the EPIRB is programmed, and registered, and additional documents have
been produced.

2g. Power Subsystem is functioning properly


All devices powered from Power Supply are operating.

When power is removed a power failure alarm is generated on the BCU and green power
LED on power module in Core Module is blinking.

When power is restored the power failure message will disappear in the BCU and green
LED on power module in Core Module is steady ON.

2h. Final Pre-Commissioning Steps

Configuration File is available with dataset download.

Five-minute dataset consisting of information from all source equipment connected to


VDR with voice test.

2i. Commissioning Complete

Commissioning Form is complete.

Installation and connection drawing is complete.

EPIRB programming report is completed and EPIRB is labelled.

All papers have been signed by Service Supplier.

Copies of Type Approval Certificate(s) have been provided to Ship.

Drawings overview bridge & monkey deck are created.

Mandatory photographs from the installation have been taken

Operation manual(s) are provided to Ship.

2j. Final Preparations for Recording


Copy of dataset incl all relevant files to be sent to Netwave Systems.

Sample 5minute data capture including voice test has been sent to Netwave Systems.

VDR is set to normal operation.

3. Ship Sensor Equipment Connections

All ship sensor equipment connected to the NW6000 must be listed, with associated information, below.
Sensor data needs to be recorded into the final recording medium as per MSC.333(90) Section 5.5.19.
