Symptom

A material is marked as a simple discontinued part/material in the material

master. If this material is selected in BOM maintenance as part of an
alternative group, you are informed by the system that in this case the
alternative control has a higher priority than the discontinued parts (message
29477).
However, if you created a production order for this bill of material, both the
alternative control and the discontinued parts were taken into account (the
successor of the part to be discontinued was also transferred into the order).
This caused incorrect distributions of the requirement quantities between the
components. In this case, the part to be discontinued forms together with its
successor a group of parts to be discontinued which, however, is independent of
the remaining components of the alternative group.

Reason and Prerequisites

This combination is currently not supported. The reasons for this are explained
in Note 121360.

Solution

A solution for this problem does not yet exist.

With the modification described in this note, you can change the system behavior
in such a way that during the BOM explosion in the production order (also
process order, network ... but not planned order or planned order conversion!)
the successor is only included in the order if the part to be discontinued is
not in an alternative group.
The requirements are no longer doubled this way (one time in the group of parts
to be discontinued as well as one time in the alternative group) but a
discontinuation redirection to a follow-up material can also no longer occur.
Thus, the requirements must be covered by one of the alternatives after the
stocks of the part to be discontinued are used up.
Note, that the change described here is a modification of the system.
