Structure/Activity:
Ask the class if they remember any text features from yesterday. If so,
have them name the text feature and write it on the board
Play the video about nonfiction text features (this will be played every
day until the end of the unit)
Reference the anchor chart and remind students of the clear definitions
for each. Discuss the purpose of these text features. Today, we will be
learning about caption and illustration/photograph.
Do an interactive read and have students highlight text features that we
come across. Stop periodically to ensure that the students are locating
the text features.
Then complete the activity that goes along with the assigned text
features.
I will pass out a worksheet where the students have to write the correct
word in the box that matches what is being shown. Once the students
complete the assignment, they will place their papers in their “file”.

Assessment:
The paper they complete after the lesson will serve as the
assessment, and I will collect the papers and check for
comprehension. Also, I will collect the papers from their bin and grade
them on correctness.
