Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is one of the best kept secrets in Europe. This beautiful city is
divided into two towns by the Danube River. The east side is called Buda and the west side is called
Pest. Buda is the hilly side and Pest is the flat side. While travelers often think of Paris and London as
the must-see cities of Europe, they may overlook the historic Ottoman architecture (建筑)of Buda,
the wide streets of Pest, and above all the sweeping views of the wide Danube River.
The Castle Hill
The narrow streets, historic buildings, and attractive views make the Castle Hill a favorite place
to wander on the west side of the city. Visitors can see the Buda Castle which was the home of
Hungarian kings. The Buda Castle is now the home of the Budapest History Museum and the
Hungarian National Gallery.
The Fisherman’s Bastion
The favorite viewing area for tourists in the Castle Hill is the Fisherman’s Bastion. A bastion is a
strong place that can resist attacks. The name may come from a group of fishermen who fought against
enemies during the Middle Ages. The fairy tale architecture includes seven turrets (small pointed
towers), statues, and wide stone steps. Down below one can see sweeping views of the river Danube.
The Chain Bridge
The city’s most beautiful bridge, the Chain Bridge, crosses the Danube River and connects the
Buda side of the capital city with the Pest side. The cast iron structure of the bridge gives the bridge its
popular name. Opened in 1849,the Chain Bridge was the first permanent bridge across the Danube. At
the time it was considered an engineering wonder. Today the Chain Bridge is most famous for its
wonderful views of the city and the Danube River. Just like the Brooklyn Bridge has become a cultural
symbol in the United States, people see the Chain Bridge as an important part of Hungarian culture.
During air plane races in Budapest, daring pilots fly upside down under the bridge. It can also be seen

I have dreamed of becoming an architect (建筑师)since I was a child but, unlike most of the
childhood dreams we have, this one did not go away as I grew older. I still cannot imagine myself
being content in any other profession. To me, being an architect is not just about designing new
buildings to fill up space. It is about designing a better, more comfortable, beautiful, and delightful life
for people who will live, work, or just pass by to witness its artistic construction. To make my biggest
dream happen, I can find no better place than ABC University to acquire this profession.
ABC University has what a top university should have. It has its special history; it has an
outstanding campus and inspiring program opportunities, such as architecture, art, programming,
space science, etc.; it has outstanding staff; it has core values that I admire and share; and of course, it
is a unique melting pot of cultures, traditions, and races which I eagerly anticipate becoming a part of.
ABC University for me is no less than a dream school to acquire the skills and knowledge I need, and
to master my dream profession of being an architect.
Besides being a perfect place to study and learn, I see ABC University as a wonderful place to
spend my leisure time away from classes. Being an open-minded and sociable person, with a lot of
different hobbies I still want to learn to do competently, I believe ABC University is the best place to
explore myself, improve my skills and gain new ones. I have decided to enjoy the experience of
American student life to the fullest.
The minute I step onto the grounds of ABC University campus, it feels like home—a feeling that
I never get any time while I am away from my homeland. I feel comfortable walking through the halls
of the campus buildings. I feel this is where I belong and where I want to spend the next four years of
my life.
Summer time is a time for children to stretch their legs, get out of the classroom, and change their
daily routine. But it is also a time when learning habits and exercising can begin to dwindle. There are
a great many benefits to helping them get moving during the summer months. Physical activity during
summer vacation can help children retain what they’ve learned, exercise their brains, prepare them for
the school year ahead, and encourage a love of physical activity that can last them a lifetime.
After school lets out for the summer, academic skills can begin to fade. But that doesn’t mean that
children need to spend their summer vacation sitting at a desk. Studies show that kids who engage in
2-3 hours of educational activities per week can retain the skills they’ve learned during the previous
school year. Movement can also help children retain what they’ve learned, enhance comprehension of
concepts, and support the learning experience. Incorporating (把…纳入)movement and education
into the summer months, whether it be by combining cooking and mathematics or hiking and physics,
can help your kids retain those critical skills they’ll need in the coming year.
Recent studies have indicated that exercise can also substantially improve memory. In a study
conducted at the University of British Columbia, researchers learned that aerobic exercise (有氧运动)
can actually energize the part of the brain that is responsible for memory and learning. It stimulates
blood vessels (血管)in the brain, helps protect cells, and helps grow new blood vessels in the brain.
Physical activity also helps to grow, adapt, and respond better to future challenges. Even 20 minutes of
moderate-intensity exercise per week can be enough to improve your child’s memory. In addition,
getting kids involved in sports and interactive games helps them develop important social skills such
as communication, cooperation and participation.
