Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Australian Institute of Advanced Technologies (AIAT) will recognize prior learning, and grant
credit for that learning, provided it is relevant, current, and equivalent to the learning required for
the AIAT course. Specified or unspecified or block credit may be granted to a student in respect of
studies undertaken elsewhere or work experience to fulfil partially the requirements of any AIAT
course.
Types of Credit
Credit may be in the form of any one or more of the following:
• Specified credit – Credit granted for an elective, a specific subject or subjects.
• Block credit – credit granted for whole stages or components of a course, often granted as a
number of subject points. Block credit may be specified or unspecified credit.
• Unspecified credit – Credit that is not for specific subjects, but rather for a number of subject
points, to fulfil course requirements. When unspecified credit is granted, the student’s prior formal
learning must be assessed as being at the same Australian Qualifications Framework level, and of
the same volume of learning, as the points for which the credit will be granted.

How to Apply
1. Complete Sections 1—5 of this application form.
2. Attach the required documentation as set out in Section 3 of the Credit and Recognition of Prior
Learning Procedure including certified copies of documents where stated. Please do not supply
original documents as they will not be returned.
3. Please note, the assessment of your application will be delayed if all documentation is not provided
(see Checklist below).
4. Lodge the form with your supporting documentation to AIAT via email, in person or by post.

When to Apply
Non-enrolled students should apply as part of their Application for Admission.
Enrolled students should submit their application no later than 2 weeks prior to the subject start
date.
How the applications will be assessed
Applications are reviewed by the Course Director against subject outlines and learning outcomes,
types of studies and the institute where the studies were undertaken, and the principles as outlined
in the Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy
If AIAT requests other supporting documents to support the request, the applicant/student is
required to provide them as soon as possible.

Notification of Outcome
Students who are applying for admission will be notified of the outcome as part of the Letter of
Offer.
Enrolled students will be notified of the outcome via their student email account.

Checklist for Applicants

Please attach relevant documentation to ensure your application is assessed promptly.
A certified copy of your academic transcript for Higher Education awards (associate degree and
above) including a description of the grading system.
Syllabus/subject outlines for previous study including details of topics covered, contact hours,
assessment requirements, assessment tasks and textbooks used. Information provided must relate to
the year in which you completed the subject.
All evidence submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified
official translation into English.
Evidence supporting your statement relating to prior informal and non-formal learning which
may include certified copies of training certificates and/or a signed letter from your employer on
company letterhead verifying the information you have supplied.
