ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to examine the environment has it influence
the performance of students in Accounting in Ado Local Government Area of
Ekiti State.

The design used for the study was descriptive research of the survey type and
also employed an ex-post facto research design. The survey method was used
with an aim of collecting data and information. Secondary schools were
randomly selected for the study. The instrument used was questionnaire for
students on the topic. The data was analysed, using t-test statistical method and
the result was upheld at 0.05 level of significant.

The result showed there was a significant difference between student’s


academic performance and parental background and there was no significant
difference between student’s academic performance and socio-economic status
of the parents.

Recommendations were made in the course of the study as follows:

1. Parents are advised to meet the financial needs of their children by buying
relevant textbooks for them.

2. Teachers should be aware of students’ problems and solve them with


understanding so that such problems may not upset the advantage of the
students.

3. Parents can motivate their wards by giving them unexpected gifts and discuss
academic problems with their teachers

4. Government should give priority to equipment to practicalize some theories


in the textbooks.
