Question 1-30 (Mapped to ILO1)

I. Comprehension [5 points each]

1. What is a Feedback Control System?

2. Differential an Open Loop to a Closed Loop Control System.
3. What is a Transfer Function?
4. Define the purpose of Operational Amplifiers and the difference of its types.
5. Enumerate the steps of a Control System Design Process

II. Identification [2 points each]

6. An interconnection of components forming a system configuration that will

provide a desired response.
7. It utilize a controller or control actuator to obtain the desired response.
8. The device, plant, or system under control. It represents the cause -and-effect
relationship of the input and output relationship.
9. In an open loop system, it is the quantity measured or controlled.
10. Also called as the automatic control system.
11. It is used to receive the output signal and compare it with the reference value and
generate the command or error signal.
12. A state of a control system when it responds to an input by undergoing a transient
response before reaching a steady-state response that generally resembles the input.
13. An electronic amplifier used as a basic building block to implement transfer functions.
14. The altered circuit which replace each elements or components with its desired impedance.
15. Function similar to the definition of resistance, but unlike resistance, this function is
applicable to capacitors and inductors and carries information on the dynamic
behavior of the components.

III. Problem Solving

16. Write the differential equation for the system shown below. [10 points]

17. Find the transfer function, G(s) = VL(s)/V(s) on the network shown below. [10 points]

18. Find the transfer function, G(s) = Vo(s)/ Vi(s) on the network shown below. [20 points]

19. Find the transfer function, G(s) = Vo(s)/Vi(s), for the operational amplifier circuit. [5
points]

20. Find the transfer function G(s) = X2(s)/F(s) for the translational mechanical system. [10

I. Comprehension
1. The feedback control system is made up of sensors, controllers, process
systems, and other components. A feedback control system's key components
are input, the controlled process, output, sensor elements, controllers, and
actuation devices.
2. Open-Loop Control Systems utilize a controller or control actuator to obtain
the desired response while Closed-Loop Control Systems utilizes feedback to
compare the actual output to the desired output response.
3. A transfer function represents the relationship between a control system's
output signal and the input signal for all possible input values. The transfer
function is represented by blocks, and the various input and output signals are
represented by arrows in a block diagram of a control system.
4. -Operational amplifiers enhance the voltage difference between the inputs,
making them useful for signal chain, power, and control applications.
-Low gain, medium gain, and high gain amplifiers are the three categories of
operating amplifiers. Low gain amplifiers are used to match impedance and
as buffers and have a low gain value. The medium gain amplifier is often
employed in the recording of ECG waveforms. Finally, the sensitive data is
recorded using a high gain amplifier.
5. -Determine a physical system and specifications from requirements.
-Draw a functional block diagram.
- Represent the physical system as a schematic.
-Use the schematic to obtain a mathematical model, such as a block diagram.
-Reduce the block diagram.
-Analyze and design the system to meet specified requirements and
specifications that include stability, transient response, and steady-state
performance.
