Ch-6 Networks

Unit I: Communication System and Network Topology

I. Define the following :
1. Computer Network: It is interconnection of computers or terminals.
2. Analog Signal: It is any type of continuous signal or wave which means, that there are no breaks or
interruptions.
3. Communication resources: It defines data communication between devices used directly or indirectly with
the help of some technologies. It may be a wired or wireless transmission .It involves-
(i) Broadband (ii) Wi-Fi System (iii) Bluetooth
4. Broadband: A broadband internet access is often shortened to just broadband, which refers to a High
Speed Internet.
5. Bluetooth: It is one of the latest technologies which enable wireless communication between low power
consumption devices within a short range (1meter, 10 meters, 100 meters) by using radio frequency.
6. Hybrid topology: It is the combination of two or more topologies like star topology is combined with ring
topology and the complete topology.
7. Bus Topology: It is also known as Line as well as Multipoint Topology. It is a type of a network topology in
which all devices are connected to a common half duplex link called a bus.
8. Complete Topology: In this topology all the computers are connected to one another. Each node or
computer is called a point- to – point link of the network.
9. Local Area Network: It is a digital communication system which interconnects a large number of computers
and other peripheral devices.

1. It signifies a continuous signal. 1.It signifies a discrete signal which carries
binary data values(0 or 1)
2 . It is referred to as the ‘Sine’ waves . 2. It is referred to as ‘Square’ waves.

3. Star Topology and Ring Topology
