Clearing Flaps Fail CAS Message

When you experience a flaps fail in between normal flap settings (other than 8, 20 or 40
degrees) it is sometimes difficult to reset the flaps. We have come up with a procedure
that will help in this situation. This is a sequence of events that may need to be repeated
several times in order to gain the desired effect.

Using a hydraulic power cart is best but this can be accomplished using the Aux. Hydraulic
pump.

1. Ensure squat switches are in the ground position and turn on aircraft power.
2. Gain access to the hydraulic service panel and switch the ground serviceswitch to
the ground position. (This step doesn't need to be done, the Flaps will run with the
X flow switch turned on)
3. Set the flap selector handle to the next higher detent than the position in which the
flaps are failed. (for example, failed at 21-39 set the handle to 20)
4. Turn on the hydraulic power.
5. Pull the flap control and both flap position C/B s.
6. Reset all three C/B s.
7. Using the rotary test button on the center pedestal, push the flap test.
8. Using the rotary test button on the center pedestal, push the flap reset.
9. Almost immediately the amber box around the flap position will change to white
and when this occurs quickly move the flap handle to the next lower flap setting.
10.The flaps should pick up the signal from the flap handle and move to the selected
position.

The flaps appear to have a greater tendency to experience this failing condition when
using the aux. Hydraulic pump by itself. When operating the flaps with just the aux.
pump, if you will only move the flap handle one detent at a time and allow the flaps to
catch up and the hydraulic pressure to build back up to 3000 psi. Before proceeding to the
next detent, the incidence of this type of failure is greatly reduced.
Event Code Retrieval PRIMUS 1000 L45
Event codes should be used as a guide for troubleshooting, but should not
be used as a stand alone method to troubleshoot autopilot problems. To
retrieve event codes perform the following:

• Press the RA/Baro button on the copilot's PFD bezel until RA

settings are displayed on the PFD.
• Dial the RA minimums to 670.
• Press the Press-to-test button on the copilot's EFIS Control Panel.
• While holding the Press-to-test button, push the WX key and hold it
for 5 to 8 seconds.
• The current flight number will be displayed in green. Pushing the
In/hpa button will allow you to view the previous 8 event codes of
the current flight. Pushing the WX button will allow you to view the
next 8 event codes of the current flight. Pushing the FMS button
increments the flight number by one flight. Pushing the NAV button
decrements the flight number by one flight.
• Each IC-600 can record event codes up to 64 flights; the 65th flight
will automatically overwrite flight number 1 data.
• To exit diagnostics dial RA minimums to below 600 or press the
Press-to-test button on the EFIS Control Panel.

Erasing Event Codes

Sometimes while troubleshooting the system or prior to the next flight it is

advantageous to clear all stored event codes in either or both IC-600's.
Erase the event codes by performing the following:

• Enter into maintenance diagnostics as described in the Event Code

Retrieval section.
• Dial RA minimums to 999.
• Press the In/hpa button. The screen will display 'Press PB #7 to
Erase Events'. Status will display 7 cyan dashes.
• Press the NAV button. Status will show a flashing 'ERASING'
message. When the erasing is complete status will show 'ERASED'.
• The event codes are now cleared. To exit diagnostics dial RA
minimums to below 600 or press the Press-to-test button on the
EFIS Control Panel.
