SYLLABUS
MODULE COORDINATOR
Dr Doha Rajar lecturer community dentistry
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
This educational module is divided into two segments, each spanning 8 weeks, resulting in a
total duration of 16 weeks. The primary objective of these segments is to facilitate
comprehensive learning in essential subjects, such as GENERAL PATHOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY,
PHARMACOLOGY, AND ORAL PATHOLOGY, with a specific thematic emphasis.
THEME DURATION
NEOPLASIA WEEK 1 to 3
HAEMODYNAMICS WEEK 4 to 5
GENETICS WEEK 6 to 7
1. Understanding the fundamental concepts of neoplasia, including the etiology, pathogenesis, and
classification of neoplastic diseases.
2. Recognizing the specific types of neoplasms that can occur in the oral cavity and their clinical
manifestations.
3. Exploring the principles of tumor diagnosis and assessment, such as biopsy techniques and imaging
modalities.
4. Investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neoplastic growth and progression.
5. Identifying the risk factors associated with oral and systemic neoplastic diseases and their potential
preventive measures.
6. Explaining the principles of cancer treatment, including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy,
and targeted therapies, and understanding their indications and side effects.
7. Evaluating the role of pharmacological agents in the management of neoplastic diseases, including
chemotherapy drugs, targeted therapies, and their mechanisms of action.
8. Discussing the potential interactions between drugs used in neoplasia treatment and their
implications for dental and oral healthcare.
9. Analyzing case studies and real-life scenarios to apply the knowledge gained in the neoplasia topic to
clinical practice.
10. Promoting awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention of neoplastic diseases in
oral and systemic contexts.
1.To grasp the fundamental principles of hemodynamics, including concepts like blood flow,
pressure, and resistance in the context of oral health.
2. To establish the connection between hemodynamic disturbances and oral diseases, such as
vascular lesions, bleeding disorders, and their clinical manifestations.
3. Develop the ability to identify and diagnose oral lesions or conditions related to altered
hemodynamics through clinical examination and diagnostic tools.
4. Explore the pathological mechanisms underlying hemodynamic disorders, such as
inflammation, thrombosis, and atherosclerosis.
5. Understand how hemodynamic changes can affect different organ systems, including the
heart, blood vessels, and other vital organs.
8. Understand potential drug interactions and side effects associated with medications used in
the management of hemodynamic conditions.
9.Develop the skills necessary to make informed decisions regarding drug therapy for patients
with hemodynamic disorders.
1. Understand the genetic factors contributing to oral health and diseases, including
conditions like oral cancer, cleft lip and palate, and inherited disorders.
2. Learn to assess the genetic risk factors for various oral pathologies and their implications
for patients' oral health.
3. Develop the skills to recognize genetic markers and mutations associated with oral
diseases through clinical and molecular diagnostic techniques.
4. Explore the fundamental molecular mechanisms of genetic disorders and their role in the
pathogenesis of diseases affecting different organ systems.
7. Gain insights into the field of pharmacogenetics, which involves understanding how
genetic variations can influence an individual's response to medications, including those
used in oral and general pathology.
9. Consider the ethical and legal aspects of using genetic information in pharmacological
treatment decisions, patient consent, and confidentiality.
