Name: Tanner Stokey
Job Title: Director of Hitting at Driveline Baseball
City & State: Kent, Washington

Tanner Stokey is currently the Director of Hitting at Driveline Baseball which is a

baseball research and data driven player development company. The company uses data driven
programming to help develop hitters and pitchers to the best version of themselves as a player.
Stokey oversees a multitude of areas within the company including the hitting department’s
business operations, player development, research and marketing/content initiatives on top of
working personally with both hitters and other hitting coaches. Stokey received a B.S in biology
from Arizona Christian University and was on track to go into physical therapy before deciding
to get into coaching.
Some aspects that he enjoys the most about his job include the personal development and
ability to learn as well as the impact that he leaves on those that work with him. With regards to
the first aspect, he mentioned how he gets to spend his time surrounded by some incredibly
bright people that are passionate about improving baseball player development. He has had the
opportunity to learn skills not only about baseball and coaching, but also business operations and
management, research, product development, sales and marketing, etc. As far as the aspect of the
impact that he has had on the players under his instruction, it brings him back to his purpose and
the reason why he fell in love with coaching: the impact it has on others on and off the field.
While he does miss playing the game himself, he has been able to work closely with players of
all ages and skill levels, not only in the United States but across the globe. After climbing up the
ranks in the coaching scene, he is now at the point where the amount of athletes that he works
with one on one has dwindled, and instead he is now coaching coaches who can then go on and
impact players’ careers and lives. The two aspects that he likes the least about his job are pretty
simple: the lack of sunshine in Kent, Washington and not being out on the baseball field itself.
As far as the salary portion goes, Stokey is not comfortable sharing this information and
he can’t give a true estimation of what an average salary in his position would be as it is a 1 of 1,
unique profession.

Name: Austin Tomaz
Job Title: Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Grand Canyon University
City & State: Phoenix, Arizona
Austin Tomaz is currently the Assistant Director of Sports Performance for Grand
Canyon University where he is primarily responsible for the creation and implementation of all
strength and conditioning for the men’s soccer, men’s tennis, and women’s tennis teams. Some
other parts of his job responsibilities include being the facility manager where he is in charge of
upgrading equipment, fixing broken equipment, organization of the facility, and putting together
the cleaning schedule. Another secondary aspect of his job is the fact that he is the intern
coordinator where he leads and creates the curriculum for interns while also putting together
their schedules. His academic background include a bachelors of science in kinesiology from
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and a masters of business in sports administration from
Webber International University.
Pertaining to his job, the aspects that he likes the most include the fact that he is a part of
a team competing for a championship and the fact that he gets to learn about the diversity of his
athletes such as their background. On the other hand, the things he dislikes the most about his
position is that there are often periods of time throughout the year where he has to work 60-70
hous a week, and the pay for such a heavy workload isn’t the best. As far as salary goes, he is
currently making around 54,000 a year and that falls about in line with the average salary that he
estimates to be around 50,000 a year for the collegiate level.
