1. “Indigenous” means “native to a specific place”. But when it is Indigenous Media means that local
media or usually locally owned and operated produces content in the local language. The content
could be newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, podcasts, etc. It simply means the section of media in
a country that is not owned or controlled by foreign influences. It is also a media that is specifically
designed for indigenous consumption.
2. Culture and its history are morals, beliefs, and aims. They form a people’s national identity. It is
essential to preserve our cultural heritage to maintain our identity as a nation. The use of our
indigenous media like our own documentation channel that shows some of the cultures of the
Philippines there is also some documentation about Filipino Food. It helps the future generation to
watch it again or read it again for their project purposes.
3. The difference between indigenous media and common sources of information. Indigenous media
shows the culture of a certain society. For example, video documentation about the culture of the
Philippines shows some of the Traditional Dances, rituals, foods, and even the saying of the word
“po at opo”. But common sources of information like books, only give facts or knowledge on a
certain subject. Magazines only show the newest trend for example, what kind of fashion is
trending, and also the internet just keeps you updated on trends also. Newspapers only give the
current events that have happened like murder, elections, drugs, etc.
