ACTIVITY 1

Fill in the table with the details about the psychological bases of Inclusive Education.

Psychological Bases Proponent Implications

1. Cognitive Jean Piaget talks about how children create a

Development mental representation of the
world. Piaget argued that
intelligence was not a rigid
characteristic. Instead he believed
that intellectual growth was a
result of biological expansion and
relation to their
environment/surroundings. The
theory concentrated on
comprehending how children gain
knowledge and understanding the
origin of intelligence. The idea is to
describe the process of how a
child learns to reason and think
using propositions.
2. Social Learning Albert Bandura A learner’s behaviour is learned
from the environment through the
process of observational learning
and that mediating process occur
between stimuli and responses.

3. Scaffolding Vygotsky When a student is in the proximal

development in doing a task,
teachers provide the appropriate
assistance in order to boost them.
Moreover, teachers provide
scaffolds to help learners
accomplish a certain task and help
them become independent and
problem solvers.
4. Situated Learning Jean Lave Children learn unintentionally

through engaging in authentic
activities, context and culture. And
with this needs knowledge to be
presented in authentic contexts.
Furthermore, social interaction
and collaboration are considered
to be essential components of
social learning in which student
are involved in “community of
practice” that embodies certain
values and beliefs to be acquired.

ACTIVITY 2

What kind of changes are needed in the structure of education to make it

inclusive for all learners with Special Needs?

There is no need to change in the education structure however, the

government must be strict on implementing policies such as inclusiveness. Report
says that not everyone has access to education, and this should be prioritize by the
government.

While focusing on providing everyone with the opportunity to study

alongside other students, regardless of whether they require special attention due to
a medical condition, the government and the Department of Education must also
prioritize improving education quality and meeting the needs of students.

The educational structure is fine, all we need is assurance that everything

that is written in its design and scope must all be implemented and catered.

Write a letter to your lawmakers. Convince your lawmakers to give full support to Inclusive
Education.

To the country’s lawmakers,

I want you to read an excerpt taken from the website of UNICEF;

“Inclusive education means all children in the same classrooms, in the same schools. It means
real learning opportunities for groups who have traditionally been excluded – not only children with
disabilities, but speakers of minority languages too.”

What is happening now is contrary to what the excerpt wants to implement because almost
half of the population of children with disabilities in the Philippines have no access to education. We
must do something about it. As a future educator, I want to speak up for them, they needed help
because the parents of these children probably don’t have the means to provide them a proper
education. Give them the attention that their need, give them their right to education. Because if you
won’t, then who will?

Please take appropriate actions, author bills to help them have what they need. Because they
are also children of our land. Filipino children who needs the support of their government.
