Housing check?

I got a message on Kamernet the other day and it seems pretty legit to me. I am starting my studies in September as
an international student and I don’t know how the coronavirus it’s going to affect my national exams dates (in the
conditional letter that I have received it is specified that I am admitted to the BSc only if I will receive my diploma
before the start of the programme). The landlord asks for a deposit - 1 month rent (which is not unusual I think, but I
heard about a lot of scams, too). So I decided to do a Housing Check maybe? I don’t know how it works or what I
should do to be 100% sure that I’m not being scammed, you know?

Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

No offense u/vlepun but isn't Zwolle a little far and expensive to recommend? To the best of my knowledge travelling
between Zwolle/Groningen that regularly at full price by train and the overall rent in Zwolle itself should net you the
same money to get a fancy studio in the city of Groningen proper, and i've looked around enough to see those are
usually still available as they're above most people's price range.

On an unrelated note, what's the availability like in Hoogezand/Delfzijl/Veendam and Winschoten? I used to meet
people (often German students) that would settle there there and they were usually positive in regards to price and
availability, but that was some 5 years ago when i was still at the Hanze.

It’s on the list because it’s got a direct intercity connection and the student room market isn’t yet fully exhausted.
Whether or not it’s too expensive is something people will have to decide for themselves.

As for traveling costs, you can greatly reduce those with an NS subscription. Shouldn’t be the biggest hurdle to
overcome.

Availability to the east of Groningen isn’t really great. It’s not an area (yet) discovered by rental agencies with a
student focus. You could always try and rent an entire house with some friends but most rental agencies aren’t
fans of that arrangement. Not to mention the public transit connections are relatively poor.

So, The Village is closing it's doors and I've been unable to find anything despite looking through woningnet, lefier,
athomeingroninger, kamernet, ssh and pararius for over three months.

Anyone knows if I have any options remaining?

I’m already in Groningen with a contract that ends in February 2020 (end of January 2020). I need a place to move in
starting in late January 2020, preferably near to ACLO station and or city center. If anyone is leaving their
room/studio/apartment please let me know.

What’s the best way to find a place that early? I can’t seem to find options. Is it too early? I don’t want to be too late
though!

Moreover, non-EU’s can still apply for the huurtoeslaag, right? Just need DigiD..? Even if the apartment is shared
with someone else?

Apologies for the late reply, but better late than never, right?

As long as you've got a residency permit, you can apply for huurtoeslag. Keep in mind that you need to be able to
register at that address and that the Belastingdienst may take the other renter's financial situation into account
(I'm not sure on the specifics, been a long time since I've had huurtoeslag).

The best way to look for now is to look at the websites listed above. I've edited the main post to include more
websites and some cities surrounding Groningen that I know have a good public transit connection.

Hi! Are the services listed other than SSH and Student Hotel, paid websites? Do I have to take a premium account to
use their service?
